Oh dear. I've got a young one like this. I've put it in a sunny position. It looks OK so far and is just coming into flower so I hope it survives.

Mine has been in full sun since it was planted and is doing very well.I find it a very easy shrub, my absolute favorite in the gardens.

I have a young one from a cutting last year - they are really healthy good value plants. I was wondering whether to plant it in shade or not, so thanks for the pointer, Andrew!

My remarks on this shrub seem to have caused confusion.
It will take sun or part shade quite happily. To my mind, the flower colour and variegation look better out of full sun but that is just a personal preference

Wow. You couldn't fit any more flowers in. What is your recipe for such abundant blooms?

I used Miracle Grow fertilizer last year but nothing this year at all - maybe it thrives on neglect like my houseplants!

Weigela is one of our favorites. I've not found this one, yet. We'll have to be on the lookout for it. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful Wiegela.
Have you noticed that wine red is cropping up everywhere.. Peter's pics from the Chelsea had iris and lupin in that colour...and I just bought an astilbe this morning that is that deep maroon red... it's a trend!!

I have had a few around, both male & female but not really frequent visits yet. Once our weather decides what to do (if ever) maybe they will visit more regularly...

What a beautiful flower. Is this a climber? I'm looking for a climber to go up a tree...appropriate?

Love your Weigela, are the leaves consistently that wonderful dark colour or do they change ?

They stay dark, which is nice after the blooms have faded, as it still adds a bit of colour.

My Weigela bushes did the same Grammazoo. They budded, flowered and were gone quickly.

Must have been the weather! I was thrilled that the lilac hung on for so long, but sadly disappointed in the weigela! It made quite a difference in the hummingbirds too, as they usually are abundant when it is in flower and are rare this year : ( Oh well maybe it will reflower later - it usually does but only a few blooms here & there - dare I hope for more? Lol!

It was the same story with mine this year, masses of buds which opened briefly turning the bush pink, before fading all too quickly. It was great while it lasted, but ........

Lovely hard wearing shrub with these great masses of pink flowers in May, and great leaf with a cream edge to the leaves.
Pink flowers in May /June. Full sun or partial shade, well drained. Up to 1m. Water well in dry spells for the first year.
I grow several of these but my favourite is versicolor - the flowers are white and two shades of pink all at the same time!
