It doesn't like below 10 degrees C. So if you live in G.B. I think you should put it in shelter for winter.

These are very popular here too. The palm comes from Laos. You need at least two for seed production as they are dioecious.

You are correct these trees are dioecious...however, Phoenix is called the "whore" of the plant kingdom because the female Phoenix will accept pollen from any male Phoenix species, and therefore, it hybridizes easily. There are so many hybrid crosses that are grown in California. It is a challenge trying to identify them most of the time.
