fremontodendron Californicum - die back

Asked on 7 Nov, 2008 2 replies

ends of branches all soft, all flowers drop, all leaves wither and drop. Have tried cutting back, but ends still go soft. Is this a form of wilt?

This is very fast growing, 20feet in two years.
It is not hardy in the UK.
Grow it against a sunny wall.
It is subject to wilt and dieback.
Sow some seed every four years to grow some smaller ones.

It is hardy in the South. Be careful when handling as the sap can be an irritant, wear gloves and long sleeves.
