Flrcrazy. You may already know this, but for those who may not......Most available clematis for sale are about 6-8 ft, some will do 12ft but the montana group are the biggies, upwards of 26ft and these should cover your arbor by 'year three'.
Visitors to my garden will often ask me about a problem they have had with growing clematis and I have a page full of growing advice on my web site, simple type 'clematis' in my search window.

OMG!...seek and ye shall find... Clematis montana...Wow is the word..What's your website?

Lori, my web site is very much a practical gardening site based upon my experiences of creating my garden from a derelict site in less than ten years. My site is something of a showroom and workshop for my gardening skills. After ten years my results are available for all to see and I'm delighted to share my gardening skills with a growing band of gardeners from around the world who register on my gardening forums and join our community.

I'm not a web professional, but I've designed and maintain the site myself. It's possibly one of the largest gardening sites on the web run by an amateur gardener who opens his garden daily to visitors - as opposed to a purely online gardening web site run by a 'professional web media group'.

Go visit www.winsfordwalledgarden.com and see for yourself. Any comments appreciated.

fabulous! i planted one of these end of last year, which is doing really well, - no flowers as yet, is this the normal time that they flower or is this one just really early?

No, I expect this one (on the front of the house) to flower about this time. There are lots of fat buds but this is the first open flower.

Previously, there was a white C.montana growing up the tree and over the wall. It died very suddenly last year so I planted this one to take its place, as a change.

Oh Jacque!!
Isn't it great to see nature just getting on with it? that's why we garden...to be part of it. Great pic.

Members' notes...

majeekahead

profuse bloomer in early summer with double salmon/pink flowers, as the plant matures the flowers deepen in colour to shades of orange - require very little pruning except to direct growth. prefers sun-partial shade - it has good disease resistance.
