Last night I was at Queen Anne High school teaching kids, followed by adults. Actually I dont like the school much, there is some kinda weird atmosphere about it.
But..along the loooooooooooongggggggggggg corridors to where my classroom is, there is a parallel garden with all sorts of things happening in it…it really is lovely, but nobody is allowed in it! THat’s my weekly execise walking along here lol
Anyway sorry for pics as they were all taken through the windows, but thought I;d just share some of its beauty.

We used to have a garden just like that at my ols school...No-one, I mean NO-ONE was allowed in there ever. It was right in the centre of the school buildings and could have been a great place to hang out at breaks..apart from being right outside the staff room.

I can understand maybe not the pupils being allowed there as they might wreck it, but I wanted to take my class out there sometimes to draw or paint and am NOT aloowed! Mental really :O

9 May, 2012

Why have they got benches then??? Makes no sense.

9 May, 2012

So it is just for looking at, then? It is very interesting with all these different 'scenes' and somehow very tranquil, and I can appreciate that it might have a calming effect on school traffic through these corridors, but why have lovely seats and paths if not for folk to enjoy? Look but don't touch, eh? So, it's garden as art really.

9 May, 2012

Exactly! Bloody rules! lol

9 May, 2012

I doubt whether the majority of the pupils even give it a second glance really. Garden art yes..but I thought I would have been allowed to take my adult students out there on a nice evening to sketch...oh well :(

9 May, 2012

It looks well cared for and I can understand that they don't let any pupils out there. However I do think adults could go there, especially an art class. It seems very silly to me.
And being it's in a school, it could be used by the biology class (under supervision) .... It's a wasted space as far as I can see.

9 May, 2012

And clearly there has been lots of money spent on it. I would love to know what was the rationale behind developing this garden to such a high spec.

9 May, 2012

Not for the students benifit anyway! Or teachers! lol
Local councils have money to spend..but when you ask for any to do with a worthwhile cause they have none..funny eh? But I bet they have lots of fancy lunches etc on it! Grrr..dont talk to me about councils lol!

9 May, 2012

Dig those gardens (scuse the pun!)
Those corridors remind me of hospital!! eek!

9 May, 2012

lol :)
Yes they do a bit..there are 10 corridors i have to walk through before getting to my classroom..and they wont let me park round the back! grrrr

9 May, 2012

AND i have always so much to carry!

9 May, 2012

That is a VERY long corridor, Pix...and a lovely garden - but it looks kind of spooky...like 'ghost garden'...

9 May, 2012

Interesting to see those photos, Pixi.
A pity you don't have access to the garden areas for artwork classes etc.
Does the school have an odd aroma ???
I always think schools have a smell which I do NOT like !

9 May, 2012

great pics Pixi, loved that pond there :-)

9 May, 2012

It looks institutionalized. Inside and out but the gardens would grace a stately home........curious combination.....

9 May, 2012

just does not make sense having lovely gardens like that and not being allowed in, as for the corridor, I thought it looked very cold, eerie in fact,

9 May, 2012

I would have thought it was a hospital it you hadn`t said it was a school, its a complete waste of space and money if its not used, although it does look smashing, schools are for pupils to learn and it could help in so many areas, as you say your art classes alone would benefit...

9 May, 2012

There are 8 corridors K!!!! :(
not an odd aroma TT jsut ..I dont know what..I dont like being there! Its a newish school too!
Thanks Sl :) yes it is curious Pam! lol
Well Yorks..I dont like walking down them at ngiht if all the students have left! Strange..I go to really old schools too and they are fine!
Yes Lincs so many classes would benefit from it..daft eh?

9 May, 2012

actually Pixi, the corridors give me the creeps when I look at them, strange

9 May, 2012

yeah ! Spooky! One of the old schools I go to has dark oak lined corridors ..reminds me a little of Hogworths! ANd I love that school..has a nice feeling.:)
THe corridors go the whole length of the school here..8 of them..down two sides with the garden area in the middle. DDoubt whether the pupils even notice!

9 May, 2012

Creepy corridors .. :o((( ...
... maybe like a prison ?

9 May, 2012

Or a nuthouse! lol

9 May, 2012

Just occasionally when I go in a building, I immediately want to get out again... can't really explain way .. There's one supermarket in town like that.... creepy...

9 May, 2012

That sometimes happens to me too...

9 May, 2012

It's a shame your art class can't benefit from such a lovely resource Pixi....yep...sounds just like typical Coonsil!!!!
I think Broxburn Academy have similar - nobody allowed in - I just love that last picture - reminds me of the scene from Planet of the Apes - where the statue of liberty is lying broken up on the beach - just not quite on such a grand scale obviously!

9 May, 2012

That is great Pixi very proud of you for this and you should be too :)))))))))))) - I hate schools and any form of education though :D

9 May, 2012

Hi Pixi lovely garden the corridors and that odd feeling remind me of that Jack Nicholson film The Shining eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek:)

9 May, 2012

I might research old maps and see what used to be there before TT..you jsut never know..I feel like that with buildings and people..strange..I cant even put my finger on why I dont like it.
Aye Angie...bloody cooncil eh? That last pic is jsut across from the art rooms..so its obvious they do get to go out there to put sculptures etc..but not me..but then I'm only an evening tutor! hmm!
So you dont want me to teach you art then Paul? ;))
Yeah Nana half expect Danny to come whizzing along on his tricycle! lol

9 May, 2012

You could try ;)))

9 May, 2012

:)))))))))))

Hi Pixi ..
Yes ... good idea to find out what was on the site before the school was built. Interesting. I hope you're able to get some information on that :o)

10 May, 2012

Well I tried last night on google but couldnt find anything there. Maybe I will go down to the library sometime. THe maps on here showed nothing there at all!

10 May, 2012

You might have to go back a long time, Pix...
We had something nasty hanging about in our old house which was from what was there in ancient times. You could feel the difference, the minute that it was sent away.

10 May, 2012

WEll I found the oldest map on here..but I dont think there was anything even built where the school is..but then I just had a quick look..will have more time tomorrow :)

10 May, 2012

We await your findings with interest and enthusiasm !!!

10 May, 2012

:)))))

10 May, 2012

Well!!!!!!!!
I have found out there was some kind of hospital about there not sure if it was right on that site or not as yet, will ask one of my students tonight who works at the library if she can find out or help me find it! There were other small hospitals in andaround Dunfermline which were used for lepers!
So we shall see!!!!! :)

10 May, 2012

Oh, this is getting interesting !
Well done Pixi on your research :o)))
Looking forward to more ....

10 May, 2012

Yes it's quite exciting! Just cant seem to find any info on that particulare hospital grr//I will tho! I dont give up easily!

10 May, 2012

Shall we send in Time Team ??? ;o)

10 May, 2012

I don't think she needs them, TT...she's using Pixi Power! ;))

10 May, 2012

Hahaha! Aye they might be able to help! :))))) hehe
I jsut phoned the local library to ask if they would have any records of it,,she said they dont go back as far as the 12 th century but you jsut never know! Watch this space!

10 May, 2012

I just got the 'angel lady' into my old house...

I was laid up on the sofa with a broken ankle and she came to help with the healing...

but...as soon as she walked in, she knew (as we all did...the animals used to sit and watch things happening, half-way up the living room wall) that it was far too cold, and all was not well.

Anyway, it took her three hours (she went up ladders into the attic and everywhere), and afterwards you could feel the warmth and light...so changed...!

Then she did the ankle!! :)

10 May, 2012

wow! Interesting! :)

10 May, 2012

I suppose they don't want crisp packets in the pond Pixi. Adults are usually well behaved tho'. Small groups would be fine ....say six at a time.

10 May, 2012

yeah would have to agree Linda :)

10 May, 2012

Pixi....try here for old maps.

http://maps.nls.uk/

I found it useful doing my family history - you might find what you are looking for.

10 May, 2012

Yeah had a look at that site :) As far as I can make out looking at different things, there was a gallows on the site where the school was built where people including witches were hung..called gallow hill or garlic hill..but need to go down to the library to check their archives.
Mental eh?

10 May, 2012

It's amazing what these old maps show up Pixi...I used them to find farmhouses that doesn't exist these days!
Depending on what you are looking for Canmore Scotland website is sometimes usefull and have you seen this already:
http://www.royaldunfermline.com/Resources/streets_history.pdf
There is a small passage about Gallow/Garlic Hill

10 May, 2012

Just tried it henny..they wont download for some reason..but I am going to go to the library tomorroww hopefully..they should have everything there..thanks tho :))))))))

10 May, 2012

Gosh that skool looks kinda clinical, I think Pixi theres probably a simple explanation why noone can go in the garden (janitor lost the keys ; )

16 May, 2012

lol Stevie :) /it is pretty clinical..hate new schools really.
Well it would seem I was right about it being Gallow-hill!
Tho later there was a poorhouse built thereabouts but map isnt too accurate. Havent found anything else. But funnily enough , now that I know, I didnt get the awful feeling as much this week and I had to walk back down the corridots myself late at night but I felt such a cold chill...the heating was still on! Strange eh?

16 May, 2012

yes sad isnt it, places like this these days dont seem like happy places : ( just there to indoctrinate the next generations into the new feudalism and indentured servitude/slavery

17 May, 2012

Well done Pixi on your research ..
gallows ! poorhouse !
No wonder there's a chilly atmosphere !

17 May, 2012

Yeah! :)
