Love it!!! What's the shrub with the red flowers/berries on the left?

4 Jul, 2009

Thanks Louise and Dawn !
That's a viburnum plicatum tomentosum. It's covered in white blooms in April, and has red bracts and berries in the summer, and the leaves turn a pretty maroon, burgandy color in Autumn, so it looks great all three seasons. I'll make sure a post of picture of what it looks like when in bloom.

I'll look forward to seeing your pic of the Virburnum in bloom.
Do you think it would grow OK here?

Glad you like it Sanbaz !
I really don't know Dawn, I'd be afraid to say one way or the other. I know Doon grows them in Canada, so they can stand very cold conditions, but that's not any help for you. I'll post a pic of it in bloom today.

You know I'm not that bright Bonkers....lol. I've gone from a redhead to a strawberry blonde....:-)
Thanks a million Elke, this part of the garden doesn't get any direct sun until noon, so I make sure and get out and take my pics during the morning hours.

Thanks for your comment TT, I'm glad you like the way the garden looks this year, with the help of some much needed rain.

18 Jul, 2009

This year I would describe your garden as looking
lush, leafy, lovely......
secluded, sensuous, stunning... :o)

Thanks so much Annella ~! Hubby's threatened me if I make these beds any larger...lol. This little grassy road is our major access to the lake, it used to be much wider...;-)

I always cut back my lawns to accomodate the plants, my lawns are getting smaller and curvier every year!

Looks lovely. I'm wondering how you get so many flowers to bloom when you are in shade. Course you did say you get some afternoon sun. That must be the answer.

These are some of the gardens I've designed and or maintain. Click on any photo and it will enlarge.

Your garden photo above is very much my aim when I am given a free hand in designing a garden. I love what I would call a cultivated wild look to a garden where ,within reason, plants are allowed to do their own thing. I love curves in a garden and there isn't a staight line in any garden where I am allowed to do my own thing.

This photo reminds me quite alot of your style of gardening

Wow...! You're landscaping skills are truely amazing ! There is so much I could learn from you. Too bad you're so far away....lol. You have managed to make your gardens look so lush and private, yet still look open and airy. That's quite an accomplishment.

Both gardens above are like mine, I love them both ...;-). I prefer to see my plants in their natural state. Don't get me wrong, I love the look of some formal gardens, but they are just too high maintaince for my time alloted in the garden and a formal garden just wouldn't blend in with my woodland, rural setting. I'm afraid I've become a bit of a plant collector too, I want at least one or more of everything I see...lol. So I just don't have the discipline needed to have a formal garden either.

I'd love to have more species of plants but I've reached the point where the addition of one new plant usually means another has to go. Luckily because I look after 35 gardens a week I can often add plants I like to my customers gardens.

It has always been my dream to have a few acres of land and to have a large cultivated garden and a much larger woodland/wild garden where I would plant wildlife attracting plants and shrubs and they'd largely be left to do their own thing.

There are two people in the village who have 2 acres + and do nothing with it. Both just run a plough over it once a year and that's it. Why they don't rent it to a local farmer to make use of it I don't know. I've asked if I could rent or buy it but they're not interested.

One of the plots in particular is surrounded by mature trees and had a natural large hollow in the centre which would be ideal for a pond. never mind... when I win the lottery eh? :)

30 Oct, 2010

I'm about to the point where I can't squeeze anything new into the garden now also...lol. It has to be nice being able to add your heart's desires to your customers garden's though ! Who said we can't have our cake and eat it too...lol. Where there's a will there's a way I always say.
Can't imagine taking care of 35 gardens and then taking care of my own. I think I've finally met someone who has the gardening bug worse than I do...:-). My hat's off to you sir ! You wouldn't happen to be a leftie or an Aquarius too ? I was blown away on an earlier post by how many GOY members were either one or both. Both are known for their desire for creativity.
There's nothing that bothers me more than seeing acres of underutilized yards just going to waste...errrr, especially when it's all I crave too...lol. It breaks your heart, doesn't it? I'm in the same boat as you, waiting for my own winning lottery ticket, I'll keep my fingers crossed for the both of us...
