My great grandmother.... Pictures by crazydi

My great grandmother....

My great grandmother....

The lady in the straw hat was my great grandmother. The photo was taken in 1902, outside her cottage. The baby is my grandfather...
Several plants in my garden today, originated in her garden. When my kids first saw this photo they thought she was me, in fancy dress! I do look very like her....except I generally wear jeans and a T shirt for gardening, lol....

Brilliant Di :)))
I have a real interest in seeing old, family photos.
They show us what we're missing today - in various ways !

Angie, that pram's a beauty isn't it ?

Lol....great grandmother is the lady stood behind the chap with the baby on his knee. The lady with the pram (or "bassinet" I think they called it in those days...) was the nanny :)

It's a very ornate pram Di, really lovely.

So the little fluffy child all dressed up there is your grand father? I have always enjoyed that our great grand parents wore dresses and ruffles boy or girl in those days...and these days it is all pink and blue..well here it is anyway..

Great old photo of your family. Love it!

Thank you for your kind comments...I'm pleased you like my family portrait ! Apparently, in those days it was quite a big deal to have an outdoor photo taken, as most photos were taken in photographers' studios. It's quite amazing to think how technology has evolved in just over a century....

Thanks guys....and No, I'm not on "Ancestry" Avis (but I might take a look now....). Sadly I don't know what happened to the pram....shame, cos it would look good planted up in my garden (not sure where I'd put it though...Lol)

Oh Di what a great photo, we are on Ancestry as my wife and her brother are well into genealogy and they have gone back several gen's, it is very interesting but it can also be very very frustrating too, I leave it to Gill she can work it better than I can, I just do the secretarial work (coz' I'm the better'er speller) and editing the photo's.

Ancestry is a very helpful site, I have gotten a lot of good info from them.

What a lovely picture Di.......... :)

Aww...thanks guys:) Martha was a lovely woman, I remember her well, even though I was only 8 when she died (and she was a very old lady then....) My grandfather however (the baby in the pic) died years before I was born....the family owned a local tannery, and he fell backwards into the tanning pit and met an untimely death!!

Wow, you are so lucky to have photos of family members from days gone by!! I just have mental pics of them from this time. Brilliant, also, that you're keeping her plants going! :-))

Thanks David :) It is a very special photo, and she really was the person who inspired me "to garden". Wonder what she'd make of being on the internet, 107 years after having her photo taken....? Lol

Or.....even finding her on it, lol!!! England is not so organised (not meant to sound at all "bad", btw), but here, we can trace anyone and everyone - birth, marriage death certs, war service records, local church records, etc., back to the 1500s, etc, all on one website. I even have discs of such info which I can use to do genealogical research within our County!!! Amazing! Also, with all the local newspapers copied onto microfilm, found ancestors winning prizes in local shows for having the biggest cabbages (how convenient, for our current garden theme!)
Anyway, was great to have another trip through your garden, but didn't find the Snakeshead Iris. :-))
