Each summer we change the colour theme in this part of the garden.
During 2007 we used acid yellow, lime green, dark green and chocolate brown. We juxtapose grasses, foliage and flowering plants and the colours are restricted to several shades to give what we call the 'wow factor.'
We call this 'painting with plants' and really enjoy 'taking risks' with colour combinations.
We have previously used silver and blue ,orange, brown and yellow. The possibilites are endless and we think this is one of the most exciting and rewarding aspects of gardening. Our garden heroes' who were experts at colour theming were the late Christopher Lloyd who pioneered this in his garden at Great Dixter, and the garden designer Gertrude Jekyll.
The large urn in the photo is made from cast iron, and we have repainted it in pale green -grey paint. This tones with the surrounding foliage.

Wonderful looking composition. It's hard to perfect perfection. I'll bet Christopher would have been delighted to see his ideas implemented in your garden.
