Here's the first in a series of pictures I shall introduce over time showing the glories of foliage in all its forms in my garden. This picture uses a berberis as the focal point.

Very nice colour. The one I've got is much darker, different variety I guess.

Berberis should make a comeback.Its not been mentioned very much over the last few years although it is a painful experience pruning it even when wearing gloves!!!

Some Berberis have relatively harmless thorns and others, with thorns two inches long are true demons! I've got both!

The B. thunbergii cultivars like this one have little thorns, steer clear of B julianae and stenophylla Jacque!
