Pictures of Buxus sempervirens
Box provide a good evergreen structure for any style of garden.
Box spheres or other topiary shapes can be grouped together for a contemporary look or clipped into eccentric topiary shapes for a more classical or formal look. When large specimens are used in a symmetrical arrangement they can frame a large garden feature such as the Italianate folly in our garden.
The ancient Romans were very fond of using clipped Box in their gardens in Pompeii and Herculaneum, and this inspired us to create an Italianate garden.
We trim the box each summer once the tender new growth has become hardened and established. The plants are given slow release plant food to keep them luscious and green. We have used a considerable number of box to give a strong 'Italianate theme' that links various parts of the garden together.
As they mature our plan is to clip them into various eccentric shapes.
The box featured in our photograph are clipped into spiral shapes each year, and have now grown into very large specimens.

I have just bought several young plants earlier this year which have sprouted a lot of young growth and was interested reading your description. The spiral shapes look lovely.
