Fish for Gardening Friend & Sid

Fish for Gardening Friend & Sid

These are not Koi..lol..they are Shubunkins.. I have in a temporary tank..waiting for a pond...they are now in hibernation and can be seen sleeping in the bottom of the tank and then rising to mid depth and then sinking again with the temps...they are foster fish...

They are very pretty :-) Are you sure they are Koi? Koi have whiskers and the fins on these look longer I think....are they shubunkins (spelling) maybe? They are very nice whatever they are - lovely markings - you will defo have to make a LOVELY pond for them - something more like a boating lake (unlike mine!!!!) :-) Do they have names yet?

Lovely fish ....

Hi little guys!!! This makes me yern for another pond. Or even an indoor tank again.
They are two Shubunkins, very beautiful ones at that! Shubunkins and Sarsa Comets have always been my favorite pond fish, even with my koi. Koi are very friendly, but I just love the gracefull way the goldfish move.
Keep us informed on their progress to the pond!!

Not sure about what they actually are Sid...the boarder whose fish they are and who I am now fostering them for just called them Koi...never really gave it any thought...he had them named some Asian names...but I cannot remember the names at all...I have enjoyed watching them hibernate throught the glass this winter...very interesting...Am thinking of readying my rainbarrel lilly pond for them and I like the bidet idea too...do have a nice little tower for doing just that sitting right next to the glass tank...lol...

Larry will be pleased.

Thanks...Irish and...Alan....Larry is not able to get to this tank..HA and if he was he would only be a watcher...he does not bother my inside tank...with only one African cichlid left in it..this one has stressed the others all out and now lives alone...Berta is quite boring living alone in her little cubbies and only coming out in the evenings to demand food once in a long while...I am still upset with her for doing Mango in..he was a Maui cichlid and had the best personality..paying attention to everything inside and outside the tank...I should have given Berta her own tank..but she was hiding all the time..did not realize she was doing it until I lost Mango..better go get some meat for her...she looks hungry...

Well I will have to put some Shubunkins in my new pond this year. It might help me get some good heron photos!

15 Feb, 2009

And then Grand daughter can take photo's of you chasing the Herons away so they don't eat your shubukins...! lol careful to not fall in the pond...it looks a bit deep...hope you can swim...!

Pretty fish, can't tell by the setting how long they are. Will they stay small or get big like koi?

18 Feb, 2009

Hi Weeds they are about 4-5 inches long now..they will get big but not so big as Koi from what I can find out...

They'd be perfect for a small pond or a half barrel. Had some goldfish in a half barrel for a while. Kitties watched them by the hour but were too persnickety to actually put their feet in the water.

Half barrel is what I have and it is full of rainwater ane waiting for them..tomorrow could be moving day!

A new home with water lilies, they've got it good!

20 Feb, 2009

Well they have their new home..not so sure it will have water lilies..seems a visiting dog who loves the water tore them out over the summer..I forgot about that..so when I went to see what I needed to move around etc..no lilies in sight..another pot was in there that grows a tall reed...not sure that one will make it but left it in...and made room for a little cave thingy for the 5 goldies and the two big guys....last I checked they were doing just fine in their new home..cannot see them as well as it is darker in there and no light shining through the glass but at least I don't have to worry about it becoming over heated and then cooler all the time..the barrel should keep a more stable cool or warmth to it....I have some shells and rocks I think I am going to put into the bottom of it to brighten the bottom a bit...

Sounds pretty....my two live in a cistern tank, so a half barrell is pretty luxurious by comparison!

It is sure not much..but it will have to do for now...not sure what to do while I am gone later on..will have to move them to one of My childrens homes I think...
