that's a beautiful one. Well done.

I just wish they (hellebores) didn't grow down so low and turn their faces to the ground! In order to really appreciate the blooms, you have to grow the plants on top of a retaining wall or do this, as I did, with one flower (sacrifice it).

This particular variety is certainly to the credit of some breeder somewhere. May he/she be congratulated! :-)

GOY cut off the top and bottom edges of my photo. C'est la vie. :-)

This particular cultivar is called Helleborus "Cinderella". In case anyone wants to look for it or have their garden center look for it (Holland).

Fantastic, such beautiful petals!

Lilycoton- I have one of my hellebore as a hanging plant, that way I can see the flowers looking down on me.

I was just looking at the hellebore at a garden store, are they hearty? Do they need a lot of humidity in the summer? This one is a beauty!

12 Feb, 2009

Yes, hellebores are very hardy. The plants live for many years. That's probably why they are so expensive! Or one reason, the othere being that they are slow-growing. Why don't you look them up on google? I'm sure you can find out a lot about hellebores there.

Beautiful Hellebore, lovely colour and photo too! Thanks for naming it too, I wish they had a more obliging habit too as you say, it's like they want to be pollenated by ants or beetles!!
There are more upright varieties and hybrids but i haven't seen one as pretty as this! I guess that's the trade off.

This, is a real beauty, and Cinderella "shall go to the ball!"

The point about Hellebores "hanging their heads" is something I was talking about with one of our America
members recently; in reply he/she said that their favourite cultivar is "Pink Ice", it holds its flowers facing up on long stems and is a stunning pink.

I Googled it, and it seems to have been a cross between
H. Orientalis and H. Niger. It has the upright habit of Niger and was I think bred in Germany. I suggest that all Hellebore lovers should Goggle it, and let me know if it is
available in the UK please; I MUST have one!
