I would like a fleeting visit from them. None in my garden but my daughter has them the other side of the village. How fair's that?

I read that as many as 60 Long Tailed Tits will sqeeze into a nest /basket to keep warm so maybe they will use them in this cold weather .....I,m hoping that is what is using mine !

Good catch, BB. Nice photo.
Mine re-appeared last Sunday, on RSPB Garden birdwatch day! Good timing. I did not know the RSPB were saying that they are appearing in more gardens than other years, as I have never had them until this year. Long may they stay.

oh cute :)

Thanks Pg - this year the Waxwings have arrived in many parts ( sadly not here though ) last year we had loads of Siskins but none this year.

Long tailed tits such delicate birds yet quite hardy great that we can give them shelter and nourishment isnt it ?

Not fair,Pg - we get them, usually about 6 or 7 at a time, but they must have flown to your garden last week, as they disappeared for the hour of the count! :-( They are so pretty, aren't they!

Lovely photo. I like the long tailed tits, sooo cute. Took a few pics of the birds we think are Siskins the other day, not very good shots but I'll have to show you for identification ....

had lots of siskins last year Dawn, but none this year...strange...they used to vie with the goldfinches for the niger feeders. They are actually the smallest finch Dawn.....and totally different from others.Greenfinches have big seed crunching beaks..siskins very delicate ones. Please post pics

Hi BB, I've sent the pics to your email ....

1 Feb, 2009

From the shape of their beaks, which are quite large and stubby, feel sure they are greenfinches.Siskins have black markings on their heads which cant see there..Well done you..our greenfinch population down dramatically on last year

1 Feb, 2009

We don't get greenfinches - well, one last year, that's all. Is there any reason, or anything I can do to tempt them?

1 Feb, 2009

Great fans of peanuts Spritz..think numbers are dwindling this year..we only have a few too.

Thanks BB for the identification. They visited the bird table quite often a few weeks ago but seen so many lately. I find they like sunflower seeds too.

Yes Flc...all the fine gourmet meals seem to hang from trees here ! lol

3 Feb, 2009

Yes Dawn...they go for the sunflower hearts too.Wilkos sell big bags of them...not too expensive from there

3 Feb, 2009

Can't pass up a gourmet meal Bonkers, no matter where I have to get it, so I'm sure I can learn to adjust... It's been years since I've done any tree climbing though, this could get very interesting...lol
