Have you checked around the area to see if there is a leaky water pipe or something under the ground causing the boggy patch Micklynch? There looks to be a downspout on the brick wall on the other side of the fence. Maybe it is just runoff from the roof.

If it is shady you could put in some nice shade plants like hosta and astilbe. They love to be in wet soil.
