I'm hoping to see another Deida. it will have one at a time for about a month. Sometimes happens while I'm at work. It would be a great study for time lapse photography.

I'm impressed how healthy all your plants look in an indoor situation. I don't have many suitable windows for plants and they all get a bit etiolated over time.

I don't really have enough sunlight for plants really at all even with windows...lol. I have a 400 watt sodium growlight hanging from the lodgepole of the cabin, 14-15 hrs of light each day and a water holding system that hydrates the house. They even get a 24/7 fan to keep an even breeze. I have refined some indoor planting tips, I'm collecting my thoughts for a blog to give up my greenhouse secrets......lol. I've a history with other lighting systems as well, maybe I can dredge up images from then. Its not just a house here. :-) Its my way of life.

how to say it??... I really respect your courageous determination. You live in what most of us would call hostile surroundings and foster the most exotic specimens from the exact opposite climate extreme. You've fashioned your surroundings into a cocoon of light and photosynthesis! Wow...awesome!

I love my little greenhouse! I just need space to sleep and GOY myself...lol. Thanks Lori, it saves me year after year. Indoor spring starts up in just three more weeks!

GT have you ever grown any of your plants hydroponically??

9 Jan, 2009

I haven't Gilli. I'm not sure where to start. I'm so used to my containers.

It's great ! It's almost like a little cocoon for you and your plants! If I didn't have the rest of the family here needing space I would love to do this to my house. Reminds me a bit of the movie 'Silent Running' where they have a giant greenhouse in space!

I do have the freedom of its all mine....lol. It feels like a cocoon when you open up the door and find a wall of mist turning to frost whisking out into the cold. I like the imagery Gillian.

I remember that movie Gillian. :o)

I'm used to containers too GT but I was in a hydroponics supply store the other day and it got me wondering. The man in the shop gave me a whole bunch of magazines on growing hydroponically but to be honest, I haven't a clue what they're talking about!! lol
I did work in a greenhouse a few years back where they were growing cucs, tomatoes and peppers half hydroponically. The plants were in grow bags and the nutrients were delivered directly to the roots by a massive dripper system. There were no grow lights or anything like that, just these massive plants rooted in these small little bags of sawdust.

hydroponics is a great idea...but it's also a lot of work to set up and a bother to maintain...pumps, nutrient solutions, etc. especially an operation on the scale of your little ark! lol.

I'm good where I'm at....lol.
