Purple Heart (Setcreasea Tadescantia Pallida)

It's also known as Wandering Jew. It's grows in full sun or to partial shade and somewhat drought resistant. Grows from cuttings.

i keep one in the house, never gets very purple, but cutting can go out to the garden each year, and theres always plenty.

This plant is a nice ground cover...it grows nicely around palm trees. It does well here because it is pretty drought tolerant. It's botanical name is Tradescantia pallida...and you're correct it is in the same genus as Wondering Jew.

I've seen it growing around palms before....I'll have to find some and take a photo.
