Willows for Weaving

Willows for Weaving

We coppice our willow trees each year - these are ready for cutting. We're going to have a go at willow weaving this year - October 2008.

I have a willow dome, It grows new stems well over 6ft long. So far I have just stuck them in the ground by my compost heap to make three arches. I have also made one large oblisk, it's not great but next years growth I fancy trying some weaving let me know how you get on.

Hi TreesandThings, we did a bit of weaving at the weekend, there is a photo on my page ..... Well, I talked by hubby into doing it. It took more willows stems than we expected, but all good fun. Do you have any photos on your page of the arches and oblisk? I used willow stems for my runner beans to grow up this year - not a good idea as they rooted on my veg plot but I dug them up and planted on a wet spot that we have in the field, ready for coppicing in the future.

Plenty of pics of the willow dome that was planted two winters ago.The arches x3 I have done on the same principal of the willow dome, stick them in and slightly weave them together along with a small fedge (fence hedge) hopefully they will make my compost heap more aesthetically pleasing.
The oblisk I made trying to utilise the willow withies/sticks. I shall use it somewhere in my garden next year for a climber.

I shall take some pics over the next couple of days when I get chance.
