I think lilies do well in most of the U.S. They are very plentiful in the South where I am. We grow all kinds here, but I only have Asiatics and Orientals. I am not familiar with the red lily beetle so that must be a critter not well suited here (thankfully!). I used to have a problem with squirrels eating the bulbs, but I've finally learned to cover all my bulbs with chicken wire and about 2" mulch to keep them from digging them up.

mmmm another lovely colour, asiatic lilies like this one are not common in the UK, our are usually bog standard orange or yellow. i have quite a few different varies of oriental lilies in my garden as they seem to withstand the red lily beetle better - do you get the red lily beetle in the States they are a royal pain in the rear end! lol no sprays seem to touch them.
