Haha Wohlibuli, unfortunately it is a thing of the past. We sold our vineyard 5 years ago. We have had plenty of bottles and two weeks ago we had some friends passing by and they had kept one of our shiraz bottles of wine. It was 6 years old and we were keen to open it. It was delicious. But now we have to live with our memory. Newtogarden, I do hope you have winegrapes for a start. There is a huge difference between wine grapes and table grapes. If you have wine grapes and want to make your own wine, please by some winemakers yeast at the healthfood shop, because that will make the good wine. Kill off the wild yeast which will come from the pressed grapes first. Look up a website on home wine making and you shouldn't go wrong. It is fun, but you've got to be patient too. Make sure you buy clean new bottles too, any left over residue in the bottles can ruin your wine, same goes for wine barrels. That is why so many garden centres cell half wine barrels, cause the wineries get rid of them after two years.

Oh Boo-Hoo, I love a good bottle of wine, my current favorite is a Gewurstraminer from a west coast vineyard, inexpensive and very tasty. I also really like Tawny ports from Aus. YummY! I forgot you were retired! Memories will have to suffice I guess.

My last house had a south-facing enclosed porch where I used to stand the demi-johns for my amateur wine-making. The gentle plop, plob was music to the ears and the smell in the porch, well almost intoxicating. It was invariably the subject of conversation when visitors called.
I intended to glaze the porch of my current home so that I could continue the practice but there has been a short-fall in time and funds. Ah well, another project for retirement days :-)
