I have a feeling you will get more before the winter's end!

At present it's 9 degrees C...and raining. The temps are going to dip into the minus 20's again in the next two nights... it's going to be a terrible mess. Pipes will freeze...and drains will stop... dreading the transition when freezing rain is possible. That can mean hydro outages... it's January, for heaven's sake!

9C must be very unusual for you in January Lori. We wont get anything like that for the week to come. 5C will be our best. The weather has been colder than average this winter so far, but so far no snow. 9C would be unusual here for winter, but definitely not unheard of.

I find myself longing for a "Normal" winter... Now what was that like, I wonder!? lol... all the extremes just confuse things. It's really nasty now... wind blowing freezing rain sideways... will probably lose satellite service before much longer. bah humbug.

If only you could enlarge that greenhouse to an acre or so Lori. Like moving to the south east.

Now that would be a dream, Stan! lol... Every autumn we practice our stoicism... "we'll get through this"...and come spring, like magic, we've forgotten the dire depths of January and February. Bears have the right way of dealing with the cold..find someplace warm and sleep it off. ':-)

There you go,bring a bottle of Vodka!..the cheap stuff is as good as the expensive stuff-lol.
Eh,I gave up the booze long ago. Too old for hangovers!

I do admire the peace and quiet Lori. You would hate to hear what I get in the city. I hate it.

ah me... booze consumption can be problematic in the deeeeep freeze, Stan. I had a friend in highschool who froze to death in a snow bank on the way home from a party. He was too drunk to know that he was succumbing even though he had a lot of alcohol in his system. He was not discovered until the next morning.
Vodka can work in an alcohol lamp though.
The bears have been living in famine for the last two seasons. We had two cold late springs, in a row, and lost some of the wild berries, apples and beechnuts that they survive on. The can't put on enough fat to see them through the months of serious privation. It's very sad.

Stan... it is so quiet sometimes that you can hear your own blood rushing through your veins...and your heart beating.
It's just an amazing, almost confusing thing. There is sound but it's at such a level that you must concentrate to hear! ... wind and breezes in the trees and grass, insects singing and buzzing. birds and small mammals...rustling through dead leaves...then, without preamble, a pileated woodpecker foraging sounds like a Thomson gun...and his raucous warbling laughter is terrifying after all the muted silence. The bluejays join in... and for a few minutes there's a rave!
Just as quickly...the sweet silence (that is not silence) returns.
I love it!

Oh the picture you've painted there Lori, sounds like heaven... All the nature around you...perfect....but then the snows come!
What you really could do with is a huge greenhouse which covers your home all winter!...xx

As long as I dont go all "The Shining" wink, then it does sound like a very nice way to live Lori. If tropicals plants dont matter? A farm in the countryside is one great place to enjoy life.

Janey, I have seen just such an arrangement on Fb. I believe it's in Scotland! My son is drawing up plans! Not sure about "snow load" though.
