Love these plants, do well for us, sometimes too well!

Now I cannot grow these Dawn...the wind shreds them.

Well it must be very windy where you live then K, because it is windy here, being by the sea!

Being smack in the middle of the UK were lucky with wind to a certain extent, frost - a different story.

Well you say that Angela..but your garden always looks lovely and sheltered, but then again, being a ‘soft Southerner’ you probably don’t really know what wind is! ?? seriously though...we are up a hill, 2 miles from the north sea on Drumsturdy Moor as it used to be known..with nothing between us and the Sidlaws on one side and the winds absolutely tear around us between the hills at the back and front. The farm down the road can be like an oasis of peace while were taking a battering half a mile away! Because they have trees to their north side...big old trees.

I see Karen, annoying. I've looked into this as our daughters garden suffers too - strategic tree planting like the farm has, not only takes the force but lifts and diverts the wind. guess there's not alot you can do.

Lovely plant Dawn. We have a Fatsia but it grew too big, so I cut it severely and it has grown o.k with new leaves.

Thanks Linda, that's good to know.

If we had a bit more land behind us we could plant trees...but we would lose our lovely views. You can't have shelter and trees as well. So I'll take the wind. Its pretty wild today actually. The Dahlias are all over again and the chairs are on the ground. The shrubs are all getting pushed around a lot. But hey-ho.

It's like with creating privacy - if you block neighbours out, you also block yourself in! Yeah stick with your fab views Karen. Our daughters chairs and pots get blown over but the worst is when the recycling boxes and contents go everywhere.

I have no choice here, my town view has gone because the council have planted a woodland behind my bottom garden but worse than that my neighbors Leylandii are now huge! I'm on a hill and had a brilliant view, hate those bloomin' conifers.

Conifers are a nightmare, some of our neighbours have them a few gardens away and they are massive.....will soon be blocking our sun out!!
We do get a lot of wind Karen which swirls around the garden, and can be freezing in the winter, worse since we had a solid fence....it can flatten the slender plants, but the shrubs are ok thank goodness.

Conifers are horrid aren't they, hopefully the neighbours will get rid Annella/Dotty, trouble is when they get too big, people are reluctant to tackle them. I've planted them in the past, ignorant then.

No chance, unfortunately, I am wondering just how tall they will get!
