Cactus on Palm tree.. (Rhisalis pilocarpus)

Its an older plant growing on a Trachycarpus plant I grew from seed for many moons now. I put the Rhipsolis pilocarpus on the palm because the old mounting for the cactus had rotted.
I notice I say "old plant" a lot..must be a reason!

Is that very stringy plant the rhipsalis? Never seen one like that before.

That's it. It has a sort of Huperzia/Lycopodium look . One reason why they are so popular with jungle look gardeners is because they are very easy to grow compared to the much more delicate primitive plants Huperzia and Lycopodiums. With the exception of small temperate forest species, and 2 or 3 subtropicals, all of them need greenhouse warmth and high humidity all the time. So,Rhipsalis are great "covers".

I like the R pilocarpa growing like that. Mine is in a pot :) Doesn't look the same in a pot - a bit boring lol

I had a Lycopodium once , a long time ago.
Does the rhipsalis have flowers at all like a rhipsalidopsis (I had one of those too...)If so it must look fantastic growing in the tree like that.

Hywel- It took me decades to actually get into planting on tree's. It seemed daunting. Now,I try whenever I can. Some plants take to it so easy even in our dry climate- just hose them down like you would any air plant on driftwood you buy at all the nursery's. Only- a living and tall tree is the "driftwood".

Stear, this plants flowers are more subdued and small..white, but all over the plant like tiny Christmas lights.

Thanks for that information :)
I have to keep mine indoors so it wouldn't be practical to plant it like that, unless there was plenty of room. My space is rather cramped ... I would like it though :)

They make great indoor plants. I've seen some by a window that made me envious.

Your Howea trunk looks excellent!

My largest Howea fosterana (Kentia Palm) has a trunk almost 7 1/2 ft tall now. It hasn't burned in this current heat wave...I'm so glad! The last heatwaves some of my other large Howeas were burning quite a bit.

Yes, we had mid to upper 90's through Saturday...then yesterday upper 80's, today low 80's. the morning lows have been very nice in the low to mid 60's. Today there's a 50 percent change of thunderstorms. Although, I think most is going up into LA and Orange County.

63f at dawn and cloudy and windy Andy. Usually it take us a 95f day to create a 63f morning. Maybe 70f today. Rain tonight!

I know you're getting the storm from the north and we're getting the storms from the south.

Yesterday, there was many thunderstorms. We had a huge down pour in the evening yesterday with lots of lightning and thunder. A huge lightning strike hit by an 80 year old Ficus macrophylla on the Military Academy in Carlsbad. A person got the pics of the lightning striking. According to the news the very large fig was not struck.

This is the story:
