For Homebird...Chiastophyllum oppositifolium

For Homebird...Chiastophyllum oppositifolium

Bought in September 2013 and planted here the following spring. I think it must have been in a pot in the meantime. The rain has beaten it down, but even so, it's like a miniature Laburnum tree. I love it! I think I'll split it up this autumn and have several in there.

Thanks Uma...its so easy...and it spreads really fast. Sadly, it only flowers once, but like a Laburnum tree...spectacular. And its evergreen too with attractive rosettes of leaves.

Thanks Amy...often overlooked I think. Probably because its sold as an alpine.

Such lovely plant and new to me.

Thanks K for showing us this one......evergreen too.

You're welcome! :)

Wow, so much more lush than mine, hardly an alpine for you.

14 Jun, 2016

They sell all sorts on the 'alpine' tables at Dobbies, but hardly amy alpines at all! The great thing is you can get five small plants for a tenner! This was a single plant and it was tiny, just like Homebird's when I bought it. I had no idea it would get this beautiful and big!

Having said that...i just looked it up, and it is in fact an alpine, being endemc to shady caucasian mountain areas! So there you go.

14 Jun, 2016

It obviously enjoys this relatively shady spot.

14 Jun, 2016

it's a beauty!

Looks lovely, think I saw this at the nursery last week in the alpines, wouldn't remember that name though! :-)

Wow indeed its a corker K.......a head turner if ever I saw one....

15 Jun, 2016

There is a variegated one, which I might get next.

15 Jun, 2016

Oh wow!! I have the one with the variegated leaf but it's nowhere near as good as this!, mind you poor things had a rough life first it was in a pot but the viine weevil loved it, now it's in the ground flippin ants insist on burrowing underneath it !!

Yes, you have to be careful with underwear. You never know when you might be taken in to hospital! ;)

Have known this plant most of my life but never seen flower stems that tall how high is it ? not that it is any good in my garden as it likes lime and loam of which there is none to speak of, PCW grows it But to my recollection his is not that tall .
One thing to be on your guard for is vine weevil they like it same as they do sedums.

17 Jun, 2016

Bjs...I have slightly acidic soil! It's only about a foot high, if that, when the rain hasn't flattened it like it has here!

17 Jun, 2016

What a little beauty Karen.....so unusual, bet it looked fab in the pot too!
