I absolutely LOVE this!! Yours is magnificent! I have two baby ones and one is just starting to flower. Isn't the colour just fabulous? This one and the Red one 'Fanal' are my favourite Astilbes.

Nice one Sandra. I haven't seen this color before. Is it new?

22 Aug, 2015

Thanks Shirley,it always seems to do well,as it gets some shade there..

Thanks Karen, it was only a cheap one from Morrisons,a few years ago,and had to split it this year, and it seems to be just as big ! The other is in my north facing border, also in flower.. I also have Red Fanal..both my faves too :o)They do better in a bit of shade, don't they, and the flowers last so much longer .:o)

It is interesting to see the difference in bloom times. I have this and it bloomed earlier. Now it has just brown plumes ...which is still pretty. Is yours spreading Bloomer? I found out that it has a tendency to travel. You have a very nice clump and so healthy looking.
So is the pieris japonica in the background. Lovely combination.

Thank you Paul, and no ,it isn't a new one..and I chose it for the colour:o) I can't remember what it is,but I might still have the label somewhere.if not,Karen might be able to tell you..:o)

Thank you Klahanie, and yes,it is a spreader..and quickly! that's why I had to dig a clump up this year,to plant elsewhere..I guess your warmer weather makes them bloom much earlier..Mine aren't fully open yet,but almost..but I also have some little blooms at the bottom, that are brown too..I leave them all on throughout the winter,as they look so nice, against the Pieris :o)

Wow, that's doing well!

Mine is Astilbe chinensis var. taquetti "Superba", Bloomer. Seems little taller than yours but it could be just optical illusion.
I love the colour...you cannot miss it can you?

Very pretty Bloomer looks great.

Mine's A chinensis 'Pumila' heres the RHS blurb. I got mine off the 'Alpines' table at the GC but I dont know why they sell it there as it prefers shade and grows to a sizeable clump. But I don't mind as its a very cheap way to buy plants..5 for a tenner! Just means you wait a bit longer for them to mature.

That is a very pretty one and a nice size too. Astilbes have had a good year I think.

22 Aug, 2015

Thanks Julia,Thrupence, and Klahanie.mine isn't as tall as yours,.and Karen, mine is 'Pumila'..you saved me looking for the label,so thanks for reminding me..:o)

Thanks Chris,I look forward to seeing it every summer, and I don't deadhead till early spring..The spikes never drop off, even in the worst weather..:o)

My Astilbes finished flowering a while back Sandra ! Is this a long flowering variety ? Its lovely !

23 Aug, 2015

Thank you,Rose mine never start flowering till late July..and no,it isn't in flower for long before they turn brown..Is yours in full sun?

23 Aug, 2015

A beautiful plant, another great Morrisons bargain that keeps giving Bloomer :o)

23 Aug, 2015

Wow! Amazing! So happy and healthy and spreading. Mine are quite poor. They must enjoy your conditions. Envious 😑

24 Aug, 2015

Yes it is Sandra !

25 Aug, 2015

I think it would do better in dappled shade,Rose..if you can find one :o) Try splitting it ,and moving a clump to see how it compares..my other one has it's roots in shade all the time, with the flowers just seeing some sunshine on the flower spikes, mid afternoon onwards, and it's doing ok..

Funnily enough I was at a talk recently about right plants, right place the person giving the talk used the Astilbe as an example (amongst others) and said how it loves some shade and many people plant it in the sun which it dislikes, then wonder why it sulks.

29 Aug, 2015

I had read they preferred some shade,Julia .The flowers last much longer, and they seem to need to be well watered at the roots..not a lover of dry soil...

29 Aug, 2015

Bloomer, I was just looking through my plant labels and I realise I have this exact one, from Morrisons just like you, lol. It's doing better than I thought, not in your class though.

I love their plants Dawn, and they have all done well..I haven't done anything special with my Astilbe, just bunged it in :o) Maybe it's a difference in our soil..I bought a Potentilla a couple of months ago for £2..no name or colour, but I have the first white flower today, which I'm pleased about, and it looks like it's going to be a spreader.which is fine where it is planted :o)

30 Aug, 2015

I agree. Today I popped in and the perennials were reduced by a third so £1.33. I think they're 1 litre pots. I got Salvia, liatris & cistus. Excellent value.

I haven't been for a couple of weeks Dawn, and our outside garden section there, closes in July, for some reason..Any plants they have now,are in the indoor section..I got three fantastic Pelargoniums in June, and the biggest flowers I have ever had..£1.33p each ! I shall definitely be overwintering those :o)You did well with your bargains too,Dawn :o)

2 Sep, 2015

We've never had an outdoor section at our store, although it was talked about but didn't happen. Your Pelargonium sound good like you say, well worth keeping :)

2 Sep, 2015

I think some stores keep them open a lot longer than ours,Dawn..a shame yours doesn't have one,as they are very good. You don't have to go inside to pay either,as they have their own till..very convenient :o)

Lucky you and what a good idea.
