Rosa New Dawn with daylily....Catherine Woodbury. (Rose New Dawn)

We have two New Dawn roses (a mistake) but because it is such a good rose and has such a beautiful perfume we decided to let her stay!!

They look lovely together. :-)

Very pretty combination, I really like both of them.

6 Jul, 2014

A perfect match, really pretty.

7 Jul, 2014

Lovely rose & lily.

8 Jul, 2014

Thank you, more by luck than judgement this planting duo.

8 Jul, 2014

No, no - you say 'It was all planned', Dd! LOL.

9 Jul, 2014

And tell a lie.....moi?

9 Jul, 2014

Why not? LOL.

10 Jul, 2014

Loveley rose and lily

10 Jul, 2014

Lovely combo :o)

10 Jul, 2014

Thanks both, still flowering, just hope they last until Sat for our open garden.....fingers crossed.

13 Jul, 2014

Oooh, this week? I'll do an anti-rain dance, as Ba did for us...it seemed to work, too! lol.

14 Jul, 2014

Spritz it worked it was boiling, the met got it wrong.

22 Jul, 2014

Thank goodness for that! Is that it for this year?

As soon as our days were over, I started 'projects' in the garden.

23 Jul, 2014

Yes all over now, and already on to our next project also, at the moment it is too hot to move any plants, but as soon as it cools down out they will come!! mad are we not?

23 Jul, 2014

YES!!!! :-D) We both want to remove a very large and rather ugly Escallonia - that'll be a huge project!

24 Jul, 2014

Certainly too hot for that and have you decided what to put in its place yet? we are moving all our herbs and re-arranging the area around the Olive tree, started with the moving of the plaited Bay today which took some doing, the pot is massive !!

24 Jul, 2014

Well - I'd like a Garrya elliptica, but it'll take a lot more than that to fill the space, so I'm still at the planning stage, researching plants that'll grow facing north.

25 Jul, 2014

beautiful.

9 Aug, 2014

Thanks Mb........Spritz the Garrya. is a most attractive shrub, it makes a huge shrub here in the south.

9 Aug, 2014

Yes, my friend up the lane has one, and so does my sister in Kent. :-)

11 Aug, 2014

Have you started yet on your project? we have cleared the border, and moved the shed and painted it, cut down a rampant montana, and a Jasmine and wisteria, taken out a Campsis, we have a small lilac to move, which will have to wait until the weather cools down.........

11 Aug, 2014

No, we're having a new bathroom installed in a few weeks, and we're busy going to showrooms looking at suites, tiles etc. Fun, but the garden will have to wait!

14 Aug, 2014

That does sound like fun, always exciting having new kitchens/bathrooms installed so many new ideas, been trying for years to get OH to ditch the bidet and have an all in one toilet instead........have not persuaded him yet!! also the new type of tap that gives you boiling water in an instant, would be invaluable on garden open days!! just waiting for the price to go down..............

14 Aug, 2014

We're off on a fact-finding mission again today - and a lunch out, as Henry's going to my friend's for the day. There just happens to be a good Nursery en route....haha.

15 Aug, 2014

Well would you know? I wonder who planned that one? we have been taking out plants today.......unheard of, it had to be done, unfortunately....
Hope you enjoyed your day out, we try and visit an NGS garden and have lunch at one of the lovely local pubs in Hampshire, not this weekend too much on!

16 Aug, 2014

It was a co-coincidence, honestly, but very useful. OH didn't object to a coffee and a sit while I had a browse. :-) We had a very good day, thanks. Look at "Dart's Farm" on the net if you have a minute! That's where we went - but only for ideas, as it's VERY expensive.

18 Aug, 2014

Will do......

18 Aug, 2014

:-)

19 Aug, 2014

Some luxury items that would have found their way to my basket, mainly food!! they seem to cover all ones needs!!

19 Aug, 2014

They do - and it's all good quality! It's all owned by 'Fired Earth' and even the loos are posh. :-) They have an Aga shop there - an all-singing, all-dancing multi-fuelled one was 'only' £20,000. Ha! I'll have two, please, lol.

20 Aug, 2014

Fired Earth have some wonderful tiles, I remember us looking at them with a view to buying, many moons ago. Aga has become so very expensive, they make log burners now, I am still patiently waiting for mine, coming up to 40 years!! they do say patience is a virtue, but it is getting ridiculous now!! still my log pile continues to grow, neighbour had a large Ceanothus felled today...and guess who had the wood? luckily OH was out.......lol

20 Aug, 2014

We splashed out on our kitchen, and have Fired Earth tiles on the floor. They're great, easy to clean and best of all - they survived the flood!

Haven't you got a log burner? Ours is the only thing that makes winter bearable. Does Ceanothus wood burn well?

21 Aug, 2014

That was a stroke of luck you choosing fired earth, quality often pays off in the long run..
No we haven't a stove, we really should have put one in years ago, so expensive now, with all the new regulations, well, I live in hope!!

21 Aug, 2014

You might win the lottery! ;-)

23 Aug, 2014

You never know lol

23 Aug, 2014

OH says that - I tell him he has to buy a ticket to be in with a chance, lol!

24 Aug, 2014

Funnily enough I did buy a ticket, was surprised to find the cost was now £2.00!! just shows you how often I buy tickets.....I really must check it. I could be sitting on a fortune lol

24 Aug, 2014

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, Dd. :-D)

25 Aug, 2014

One number!! Oh well there is always next week?

26 Aug, 2014

Sorry....Hey, a guy in our village won almost 2 million pounds not long ago. He's our builder, and I was pleased for him - a lovely man. So it does happen!

27 Aug, 2014

Goodness me, how lucky was that, is he still building or has he retired to a life of luxury?

28 Aug, 2014

He said he'd carry on working, but they've bought a new house and a horse for the daughter. I think he got a new car, too. Don't blame him having fun!

29 Aug, 2014

No I dont either, no pockets in a shroud!!

30 Aug, 2014

No, indeed.

31 Aug, 2014

By the way are you still on that other gardening site?

2 Sep, 2014

Yes - we miss you!

3 Sep, 2014

Ahh that is sweet, tried to get back a few months ago, but, we have changed our email address.....so it looks like I would have to join as a new member?

3 Sep, 2014

Yes, I should imagine so. Make sure I recognise you, though! :0)

4 Sep, 2014

Will do.......promise not to stalk you!!

5 Sep, 2014

Haha. Good! :-)) We have another 'returnee'. You'll see.

6 Sep, 2014

Oh I am intrigued!!

6 Sep, 2014

Come on over, then. Nobody bites as far as I know. ;-)

7 Sep, 2014

I should hope not.......busy for the next few days, OH took the newly laid path up, rearranged it, spent all day doing it, lol...... then he did not like it!! so today it has all come up again, and then he was short of 14 sleepers, if he had left it alone we would be quite a few pounds better off!! so glad I did not suggest it!!

9 Sep, 2014

Oh dear - these men and their projects...I know the feeling. Didn't *you* get the blame anyway?

10 Sep, 2014

How did you guess? it is usually my fault!! have put a couple of pics of the Caryopteris on, because it is behind several plants it tends to grow towards the light, it will be pruned hard next year...

10 Sep, 2014

How hard?

11 Sep, 2014

To about one ft from the ground!! and before too much new growth starts, so that you do not get a sprawling shrub! but a more compact one.

11 Sep, 2014

I don't prune mine hard enough - I tend to wait until I can see new growth appearing, then cut to that. Must do better!

12 Sep, 2014

Well OH does most of the pruning, he is more drastic than I am.

12 Sep, 2014

My OH thinks pruning means hacking back. :-( He takes his hedge cutter to the Berberis! I wouldn't mind, as it's right by the path, but guess who has to clear up...OUCH!!
