Spritz - how do you manage to keep this going? It's not supposed to be hardy.

I know and I'm as surprised as you are, Andrew - it's in its third season. It got buds last year, but they didn't open. It has doubled in size, too. :-)

Beautiful love the dark blue center;0)

Maybe I'll try it again - if I can find a space for it.

27 Apr, 2014

Why not? It's a wonderful plant. :-)

28 Apr, 2014

I love the colour!

28 Apr, 2014

Yes, it stands out under my willow tree. :-)

Lets face it, that was as close to a NZ winter as your plant was likely to see in a while wasn't it. All my NZ species Fuchsia have remained in leaf (F.perscandens bloomed magnificently this winter) and the Clianthus loved it.

Yes, Meanie, but this is its third season...I suppose I've been lucky.

2 May, 2014

Wow! This is another one for my NZ collection then.

2 May, 2014

I see that Helen Dillon in Dublin grows it too. She covers it with a cloche for the winter.

2 May, 2014

Good idea - I might do that if cold threatens.

6 May, 2014

It's a large plant, Fran...that's just one flower, obviously.

7 May, 2014

wow, hope to see a pic of the whole bush smothered in blue ...

7 May, 2014

That's a bit difficult, as it's under the willow tree...I did try, but it didn't turn out very well.

11 May, 2014

lol not really "awww" except for poor plant thta can't show its full potential, and poor you who won't get the chance to appreciate that potential

11 May, 2014

Well, I can see it, Fran. Shame you can't!

12 May, 2014

12 May, 2014

Don't forget it's not hardy...

13 May, 2014

13 May, 2014

NO! Anything than that, Fran! EEEK!!!!

14 May, 2014

just found out I have one, she said it's a thug, and looking at the pics before it was cut back, I can believe it

14 May, 2014

They're so boring, Fran - only good for hedges.

15 May, 2014

nods, that's the only place I've seen them before this, now I have one crwoding the other shrubs in a corner. at least it is at the moment .... evil luagh

16 May, 2014

Want to borrow my secateurs and pruning saw, Fran?

Can you believe this? When we came here, there were various specimen trees/shrubs in the front lawn; a copper beech, a silver birch, and...a laurel!!!! That was removed FAST and I planted a Magnolia in its place. :-))

17 May, 2014

I have a bush saw, bought for a communal garden project about theirty years ago and not used since. it'll get some use now ...

17 May, 2014

Well done - start sawing. :-)))

18 May, 2014

I've already started in another corner, should tidy that up first before starting on Stan (Laurel) - got too many half-finished jobs already! but will set-to with a will

18 May, 2014

I'm willing you on, Fran. :-D) Bye-bye Stan...

20 May, 2014
