oooh, nice! that lot must add some weight to the walls - and the brickwork might suffer? but it don't half look impressive

I'm not sure about that Fran it will be interesting to hear other comments about the harm to brickwork , an old gentleman stopped to chat to us on the road he said he use to drink in this pub in the '40's he had a lot of memories of the place !

Oh No Janey I wish :o) it's stunning isn't Dawn ,yes it's virgina creeper I don't think it's too harmful unless it blocks the gutters and creeps under the eves ,it looks as if they keep it trimmed at a certain height , another time when we walk by the leaves will have gone leaving it bare ...

The chap across from us just trims his back from the gutters and windows late in the summer. It hasn't done his stone walls any harm in all the years it's been on there. It looks stunning.

Such a display, it only causes problems if you already have problems with the wall, loose cement etc....
Great photo and wonderful colours.

Ours does tend to work its way into the garage but hey ho.

This house does look lovely.

that's good to hear! have heard of trees being blown down in strong winds because of the weight of the ivy climbing up and speading over it. also have heard of some climbers using brickwork tp help them climb, and making tiny holes all over.

I thought at first that it was yours, Amy. sigh!

It's brilliant Carole ,me to Dave ! I expect you are right Fran when I was young we lived in a very old house the walls were so thick the temperature was virtually the same all the year round almost like a cave in fact it was warmer outside in the summer than inside .. cool in the summer warm in the winter once the fires are lit it holds the warmth ...

I have a Virginia creeper on the street facing fence ...luckily I love it which is a good job as it helps hold up the fence ...LOL (my housing association can not afford to mend it until it falls down apparently?!?).I am growing a honeysuckle over my arch another of my favourite climbers
