Roythefoot:

Thanks! It's considered "the most beautiful tropical flowering tree in the world" by many people. Photos can never do the scarlet flowers justice, unfortunately.

Wow,,,,no matter how many times I see a pic of this tree it's always a wow.

I'm wondering if it might grow where you live. You may get too much rain during winter for this tree to survive (maybe?). It loves it extremely dry weather during winter. I do know you have enough heat for it to bloom well.

I have seen photos of this tree in Sicily, Southern Greek Islands and in parts of southern Israel. I think it can grow in southern Crete, also.

I might have to give it a try.

Crete is warmer than Corfu.....but not as green. I think we pretty much get the same amount of rain.

That's what D. regia likes a very dry climate (especially out of the tropics). It's needs very dry weather in winter. Wet weather in winter is not good for D. regia.

I think it grows much better in Limassol, Cyperus than in Crete (from what I've read). D. regia is much more temperamental to cold, wet soil than even plumeria. Although, D. regia has survived colder temps (when mature) in dry-winter climates than plumeria (even if it's a tropical tree).

Here's more info.

Mine are just starting their blooming cycle right now. There's going to be another wonderful summertime show I think. It's been rather a long dry again this year, and the Delonix always put on a great show after parched conditions.

Yes, they bloomed very well in Southern California this year because of the drought. We didn't have much rain at all last winter (in most of California). I hope we get more rain this season!

Amazing, could not ignore this tree, even if you wanted to....

Yes, it's one of the true wonders of the plant kingdom. It's considered by many to be "the most beautiful flowering tree in the world"

Unfortunately, photos can never do justice to the scarlet flowers.

I planted seedlings in Hayward. I have a few more in pots. I know one guy has them growing in Livermore. He covers on freezing nights..and it gets very cold there- 20's for many nights each winter. I saw the photos too. About 8' tall.

Seedlings are extremely tender to cold and wet soil. I've started hundreds of seedling over the years. I sold all but a few.

Yes, I've seen the photos of the one in Livermore. It's amazing it has survived so well. They do need and love heat; however, cold wet soil is lethal.
