Thanks Annella, Kat wanted some ideas for a gate a friend is making for her , the wall planter was a water feature it stopped working and couldn't be mended so I decided to use it for plants instead ... :o)

Very nice discrete gate...;-) That wall planter/water feature and plants around, all fit very nicely together :-) Oh, yes, I love arches above gates, like this one, unfortunately, there are not so many craftsmen here who know how to do that.
Amy, my gate (the one you liked) was made 6 years ago, so I am not working on gates now. Regarding smith work, I like very much simple, smooth lines with leaves or plaits like the one you have in the middle.

You are lucky Amy to have walls and not fences! Gate looks lovely, and the planter!

We were lucky as we have a neighbour who was a builder he made the arch for us Kat , Val we only have this one high length of wall between us and the garage approx 20ft the rest is all fencing and shrubs ,I make the most of this wall though !

I like the look of bricks and iron combination. Reminder of "Old world" where everything was made to last .. Not in North America any more everything is aimed to shareholder value so it can last only year or two and has to be replaced. Buy and throw out society...generally lots of glitter and not enough substance.
Just saying :-) Maybe I should not.

Hi Amy, nice gate and especially nice bricked arch, not an easy task. Was this Jim's work?

I'm afraid it is a throw away society today Klahanie nothing is made to last and almost impossible to get anything repaired either ..
Hi Dawn you guessed right Lol ,you know me to well :o))
Thanks Angela ,our friend Jim always took great pride in his work , he's retired these days but still comes round to tell Tony off if he thinks he's not doing a job up to his standards ......

I love that Gate, and it goes so well with those lovely brick walls,Amy.what a great use of the water feature..aren't you a clever little thing? :o)..what have you got in it?

I love to see the tall brick and stone walls with arches and niches...sigh. Did I mention that I need to replace or re-build the bridge at our gate? Was thinking about making a stone bridge with all the stone and gravel around our area. wish I knew how to make a vault like that...great work. Classy!

Thanks Sandra I had some blue Brachycome plants in the water feature the flowers have died now .
Lori our neighbour Jim the builder used a wooden arch shaped form as wide as the bricks over the gate he then put the first row of bricks on and over the wood when that had set hard he put another row on he didn't take the wooden form away until the whole arch was completely set and dry ... good luck if you try it :o))
