It's Miscanthus x Giganteus Dawn , it's grown in this area to use as fuel for power stations , when it dies down we save the canes for staking up plants in the garden , Tony made a fence out of them once they are quite hardy ... x

Thanks Amy .... there you go Dotty.

Wow, I'll keep the canes this year then, thanks for that. Will the clump keep spreading then Amy?

Phew that was lucky.......no we dont have it!! not surprised it is used for fuel.

I have a smaller one with a white stripe down the leaves, that's quite dainty compared to this one, both nice though.

We need fuel for our wood burner, hmmmmm

17 Sep, 2013

Good or bad , Dawn , or just asking ?

17 Sep, 2013

Hi Driad, good haha, just that Amy and I have wood burning stoves and Amy says its used for power station fuel. Sounds good for an alternaive to bamboo canes too.

17 Sep, 2013

Well , it's used in some power stations to produce electricity so it ought to be OK , Dawn .

I haven't tried burning it Dawn It might be a good experiment to see how long it burnt for , we had a fire last night it was lovely and wasn't long before we were stripping our jumpers off :o))

18 Sep, 2013

We'll have to try it Amy. We've had the stove lit each night this week, just ticking over nicely.

Lol, as long as only jumpers came off. ;-)
