Side of front border

Side of front border

All plants are now beginning to grow and have bought some more to put in there today. Blue and White Campanula, to give it a little height. No sign of my Verbena Bonariensis coming back but think it might be a bit early yet. Hope so!

Ooh dear, that doesn't sound good about the Verbena Blnariensis.Did u cut it down in Autumn. I always leave some top growth on mine as they can be a little tender!

Paul yes I did, the tall one, it is their third year, they did come back after all the bad winters of 2010/11 but I bought some smaller varieties, think it was called Lollipop, and they were supposed to be a little hardier but there is no sign of growth in any of them, they are always later coming through in this border because it is quite a sheltered area and only gets sunshine after about 11 o'clock so I have not given up hope completely.

Let's face it, there hasn't been a lot of brightness at all this year so far, so, let's hope they come up a bit later!!!

Mainly snowdrops and bluebells in this little patch Pansy. No sign of the Verbena yet.

Are you being sarcastic Mouldy, again!!!! lol, your garden will soon be in bloom. :O) We have had a lovely day today, but it is getting very cold at night still. Hope the plants are still surving for you. Just got back in from our first cricket match (I do teas) and it will never last this weather I am sure. It did turn very cold after tea though. Hope you are managing to stay warm in Glasgow. :O)

We had a gloriously sunny day yesterday with just the lightest breeze. Fairly warm, in fact.
Today it's back to cold gusty winds, so the temp has plummeted, yet again.
I could scream, Olive, I really could. Lol.
Not one single bulb has come up, so far.
I'm beginning to despair. :-(

It is so frustrating being a gardener at times - but I am sure we shall get better weather this year. If the old saying is right 'Ash before Oak we are in for a soak, Oak before Ash we are in for a splash' because the Oak is just starting to bud up and the Ash isn't going to be first this year. Yay!!!! Keep your chin up Mouldy, better times are just around the corner, your little patch will look lovely in a few weeks time. Maybe the slugs got the bulbs with all the wet weather we had, they love those sort of conditions.

It's half-two in the morning & I've just thawn out, after chasing off the foxes ( they dig up my wee strip for insects) & a slug-hunt.
53 of those wee so & so's tonged over the wall onto the wasteland behind & good riddance!
The birds, foxes or whatever are welcome to them.
Loads of fat, juicy worms around in the strip, I'm happy to report. Lol.
Oddly, most of the slugs kept turning up next to a couple of wee new shoots, where I planted a cosmos & a dicentra, so fingers crossed. :-)

someone did a survey on snails, they marked the shell with nailpolish and then checked to see if they returned to the garden, I hate to tell you but they returned. lol

It was on a wildlife programme on radio 4, Olive.
The original research was done abroad, but they did the same experiment here in the UK and, like you say, some of the snails managed to find their way back, after a 10 mile journey!!!
It took some of them over a year.
Probably sightseeing. Lol.
I haven't found any snails in the garden, yet, but I guess it's only a matter of time. :-(
Meanwhile, let's hope the slugs don't have the same ability.
Happily, the foxes have a wee root around on the wasteland, before they try to sneak into my garden, so they may munch a few & the local birds are always having a scratch about, once they've scoffed whatever the neighbours have chucked out for them or they've managed to scavenge from the bin area, so that should account for a few more.
Meanwhile Mouldy's on nightshift with torch & tongs. Lol.
