Looking a bit tidier.

Looking a bit tidier.

After giving the grass it's first cut on the highest setting, trimming the edges and cutting back all the dead or old plants it's looking much better. Sadly we're back to dull miserably cold weather now after the 1 sunny day last week.

Thanks girls. Good job I nipped out to do it that day when it was reasonably dry. It's been soggy since...

Looking smashing Hb, all ready for Spring, when it comes....! Like you we've got the gloomy wet weather, the one saving grace is that the evenings are lighter thank goodness...:))

Same here weatherwise. Your garden looks great - it's so satisfying to get that first tidying-up done, isn't it? (Though mine isn't anything like as neat as yours!)

Thanks very much everyone for your lovely encouraging comments. I had been wanting to get the slope lawn part tidied for weeks as its the bit we see the most and I tend to cram a lot into these borders. It's not so tidy up the top bit...The weather stopped play....lol
I am so pleased we shaped the lawns a couple of years ago. It gives me a better choice of planting areas.
The gardens are about 100 mtrs from top to bottom Gralew. We have done our best over the years to form good sized flat areas for the lawns and give the children areas for ball games etc.
When we first moved here the children (and me) used to sledge all the way from the top down to the house.....

Now that is what I call ENGLISH GRASS! ;-) Perfect. I never had so clear cut edges and beautiful colour. I think that grass on the left is heart shaped, isnĀ“t it? :))

Lol....Katarina, we had enough rain and snow to keep the grass green over the past year.. The bigger lawn is like a figure 8 and the smaller one looks like an exclamation mark to me. Funny you should mention heart shaped because that's how I have been thinking of shaping the flat lawn.

lovely and tidy Homebird, a great start to spring!

Thanks Ydd. It's reassuring to see the bulbs coming up and signs of life in some of the perennials.

I was thinking about your lawn, all day yesterday and had to have another look today. I knew I was not dreaming it looks great. Is the top garden as nice.

That's really nice of you to say that Johnjoe. Thank you so much. The top gardens are quite different because of the trees around them and I am gradually filling the borders up with perennials and shrubs.

Wow Hb it must have been great sledging all the way down !'-)

If I took a similar picture from my back window, it would show a bit of mess at the moment. Give me four months to get most things into place and you can have a picture showing it then lol

It was fun Gralew, good job we put the pond in at a later date or we could have ended up in it. Brrrrrr.
You must take a photo now Alocoloman and save it for the blog you are going to do to show us the progress towards your tropical garden. It will be great.

Ok Then and please do call me Scott, my friends do :-)

I will put one on my page I took when it snowed last month. It may not be apparently visible but I will explain what's in it

If you message me with an email address I can email you the picture as you cab zoom it as it's 8MP shot from the bedroom window, the garden is over 100 feet long from the house in total including the lane.
