Ooh I love it ... delicious ...

I think it is chick peas liquidised and tahini paste added stevie

daffodils are apparently poisonous ~ i know someone who tried to use daffodils as an example in his preaching ~ he ate one and had to run out of the service ~ serves him right i thought!

This is the basic recipe from a fab xmas pressie book of food from Jerusalem......It made rather a lot though!
250 gr dried chick peas. Soak 'em over night then strain and put in a big enough pan and add 2tsp bicarb. Cook for 3 mins then boil for 20 to 40 mins. Depending on crunch factor taste!

Or take a can or so of ready made and cooked chicky peas...

Liquidise.....
Add 270 gr of tahini (too much I thought!)
4 tbs lemon juice
2 large or 4 small as in my case grated garlic or pressed!
1.5 tsp salt
process till all mushed in.
Add 100 ml ice cold water (opt)

To make it pretty and more palatable you can add cumin, chilli, coriander. Chopped parsley, toasted pine nuts or anything else that takes your fancy! Drizzle/dribble of olive oil.
Just add pita bread or ryvita or somesuch!

Am now trying my hand at chicken consommé, would have like to do beef but the butcher didn't have any beef bones!

22 Jan, 2013

I just might have to make some of that hummus now, it sounds so lovely.

for the consomme is it just the bones and stock plus onion?

thanks for the recipe!

ooooooh its yummy ~ just made it ~ dipping seeded ryvita in right now, thanks again lulu ~ you are a great foodie!

well done for having the ingredients!!
Just Google consommé, it's too complicated to write down!!!
Basically, a good stock, carrots, onion and garlic, skins on, celery. there's the bit with whisking egg whites in too!

22 Jan, 2013

had the tahini for ages and hadnt got round to making the hummus.

ok, thanks for the info ~ i dont have all the stuff for the consomme though! egg whites? that sounds more complicated than i thought!

Lulu have you tried freezing it in portions when you make a large quantity ? I haven't but wondered if you have ! I make Avocada and Onion dip and freeze it in portions when they are cheaper .......

22 Jan, 2013

I haven't tried freezing, just hoping other half eats lots for his lunch!
Just made the chicken consommé, very pleased with that! Totally delicious!!

Did you make it from this recipe Sticky ? my new food processor arrived this morning this is perfect to try it out with :o)

23 Jan, 2013

yes exactly like this ~ the biggest problem was getting the liquidiser to pulverise the chick peas [i used a can of chick peas]

oh and added a bit less tahini as lulu said she thought it was a bit much

added a bit of coriander too

23 Jan, 2013

Yum, coriander!
I used my new food processor I got for Christmas (it was on my xmas list!!!) It was so complicated and came with so many extras that we call it the word processor!

23 Jan, 2013

I didnt have any fresh coriander but now they sell it in little jars, chopped and mixed with oil to keep it 'fresh'. I know its not the same as fresh coriander but its useful.

23 Jan, 2013

I am going to freeze the rest of my fresh coriander...my parsley is outside and is brready frozen!!

23 Jan, 2013

I dont like things that are too complicated ~ i dont mind mechanical things just so long as they work ~ without having to read a large manual!

23 Jan, 2013

I think parsley will freeze ok too ~ naturally or in a freezer!

Lulu I had to ring up the company twice today to help me get my new food processor started, firstly because I couldn't see how to fit the bowl onto the base and then again when it wouldn't start ! I felt such an idiot when he said you need to put the lid on before it will start :o( I always freeze herbs they freeze so well ! parsley will freeze well Sticki ,I don't know of any herbs that don't .. it's worth saving your Fennel seeds as well pick them dry and pop them in a clean jar !

23 Jan, 2013

Oops Amy...lid on does help!
I tried to use mine on Christmas day and it wouldn't work to slice my brussels....was most annoyed. It works fine now and has made many soups and whizzed up spices with garlic, I love it!
