Viburnum Tinus

Viburnum Tinus

I just love this commonly planted Evergreen Shrub, especially when it is in full flower. This usually happens in March/April, but this year........

That looks so lovely Karen, the buds really set the flowers off in this photo

Thank you Cinders, I thought that myself. The buds are so purple just now, they are almost as good as berries!

The flowers look incredible. I have several viburnums but not this one. How tall it gets Karen?

Beautiful flowers. My have buds at this time and they bloom in December, January, Karen! You are right, it can grow up to 2 meters, as it is said in books, but how fast? I have two shrubs, the oldest is 4 years in my garden and it grew more in space then height. It has now about 50 cm.

So lovely - in my favourites.

That's my experience too Katarina. It grows out more than up! I have a few, and none of them are over 3' tall, even the ones that have been in the ground for about 4 years. You might like to have a look at the variegated vars. they are really pretty and brighten up a winter garden, although they are not as vigorous, hardy, or floriferous as the ordinary green ones.:)

Thank you Wildrose!

Lovely photo Karen, I find them quite hard to capture. I have a large one in the bottom garden that needed pruning to keep it off the lawn a few weeks ago, the flower buds are already starting to grow back.

I agree Annie. I took four photos and only this one did justice. If you try to take a pic of the whole plant it just looks dull to me. :) I love my variegated ones, but they grow much more spindly and don't seem to flower much. Perhaps I should give them a feed. This one is in a pot and has been fed with Tomorite and it's just gone crazy!

Do you use any fertiliser?

16 Oct, 2012

Ocassionally K, in a very hap-hazard way. I've been known to scatter chicken muck pellets, Growmore and Bonemeal. From time to time I use a foliar feed, but I am very unreliable on all of that I'm afraid!

:) It's fully in bloom now A. I hope it lasts a while. There are no signs of flowers at all on the variegated ones :(
