I wonder if anyone still gathers chestnuts. There is a large tree in the fields below and the squirrels are usually busy this time of year gathering the chestnuts.

I love roasted chestnuts in the winter Lindak.our local pub have a Christmas party each year and we are greeted with chestnuts straight out of the fire and a glass of mulled wine!Very Christmassy !

You're right there Paul. I wonder how many people could go foraging and know when to harvest and what to harvest and how to cook it too. WHen we had our smallholding mushrooms grew in the field and blue fungi grew on old wood. We had elderflowers and berries and blackberries. We had a very large veg plot too.
