Japanese beetles, well.. the battle has begun ! Wish I could win it just once ! I always come out on the short end of the proverbial stick!

Which plants do they attack in particular?

Unfortunely, I haven't found anything that they will not eat !..lol. Anything from Rose of sharon blooms to banana tree leaves and everything in between, and I have them swarm in by the thousands, makes you wonder how sane I am for gardening here, doesn't it !

Oh gosh what a shame , I haven,t seen those before , they look like our scarlet lily beetles but they only attack lilies . It must be awful after all the work that goes into the garden .

Wow wohlibuli, you've given me a ray of hope ! That there is a chance they might just become a figment of my imagination one day, Thanks !!!
Everyone who isn't familiar with these little pets will soon be appalled at the damage they are capable of , I'll be posting pics in the future of damage I know is just around the corner. Been there too many times to think this year will be any different than the last 15 years I've been fighting them..

Same here. I haven't seen any around here in quite a few years. When we did have them the special traps they have worked well but we didn't have thousands as you do Flcrazy. I would set up the traps away from my plants and the traps would draw them to ceratin areas away from plants. Is there anyone that you can call that could come and heavy duty spary. You have a lot of woods near you I've noticed and maybe that is where they are breeding. There has to be exterminators around who could deal with these.

I have about 4 traps hanging in the trees about a tenth of a mile up our private driveway, next time I have to dump them, I'll have to take a pic, there will be at least six to eight hundred beetles in each bag, it's disgusting, and it smells so bad on a hot afternoon too,..lol. We have alot of cattlefarms and a pig farm close by with hundreds of acres of pasture that the beetles lay their eggs and breed in. I don't think the caldwell agricultural commitee will allow the cattle farmers to treat the pastures, where the cows eat grass, with the pesticides to kill the beetles. Even if they were to change their minds, none of the farmers could afford to buy that much insecticide, it's very expensive. My father would have to spread it over 52 acres himself, and he has the smallest farm in the area. So I'll keep using the traps and hand picking the rest and , when angry enough, mashing them with my fingers...! Oh yeah, I've done it many times !

Maybe that is why they have virtually disappeared around here, most of the local farms have been sold for housing. The nearest one has just goats and Emu.
