Gourds

Aren't they pretty,Amy? they look like mini fruit salads :o)

I like to grow them sometimes. I've never seen this shape though :o)

I always like to see pics of your autumn gourds Amy, shall you cook some or have them as decoration? They're great for Halloween aren't they?

Thanks I like growing them for their novelty value , these ones are called Turkish Hats Hywel ,the large ones are almost as big as a dinner plate there are some small Patty pans there to .. I varnish some for decor Janey they keep longer that way but the smaller ones you can eat rather like a courgette , similar to a courgette Suey .... not a lot of taste really you need to put them in with something else to give them flavour ....

I call them 'Turk's Turbans, and they are edible too. Good crop :))

Yes I'm sure you're right Pam Hats was the first thing that came into my mind LOL ... I've eaten the patty pans but not the Turk's Turbans ,would you roast them with a drizzle of olive oil ?

And a sprinkling of dried chilli flakes,black pepper and sea salt if you care for them, they add a little extra taste.

That sounds nice I love chilli flakes and often sprinkle them on roast potatos ,thanks for the tip :o)

I have been in a couple of farm shops looking for Turks Hat Gourds but found none so far this year. I wanted to find one to do colour pencil work, as they are such an amazing shape. Yours are lovely Amy.

I wish you lived near me Dorjac you would be very welcome to one of mine I'm afraid they are rather too heavy to put in the post :o(

There is another place I can try where I got them before and did one in water colour. They are rather large and heavy. I went to an award winning farm shop at Brentwood (Towie Town), on the hunt, and they had every hue and shape, but a Turks shape.

I hope you find one Dorjac I don't suppose it's the same trying to copy from a photo , I'd like to see the finished picture if you do one ! I,ve never seen Towie and thought what a peculiar name it was until I read somewhere what the letters stood for LOL ....

Yeah Only Way Is Essex Amy. Brentwood is quite a classy place. Has lots of woody places and large country parks.
I watch it through my fingers, if I ever bother. They are plastered in make up, and so self regarding, such shallow and over dressed youngsters. I'm sure that Brentwood benefits from the TV programme, as so many young people want to emulate them. Brentwood has a Catholic Cathedral and a public school too and head offices for big companies.

That's whats wrong today Dorjac all the silly people get the lime light and huge amounts of money and as you rightly say the young are quick to follow ... the place it's self sounds interesting with it's woods and parks ..
