Isn't it Chris....It's absolutely gorgeous, I think.

The weather hasn't done this any harm by the look of it.

P...this is in the part of the garden that was under 6 inches of water for the most of last week. I think Cotinus Grace, one very large phlox and my exochorda have just about popped their clogs!!!!!!

I hope you can save those plants. Are you thinking of moving them. beautiful rose.

Thank you Meadowland, Pixi and Scotsgran.
I'm not really sure what to do Sheila....It was starting to dry out and I was hoping for the best...until last night's rain that is!! Flooded again - obviously the ground is just not getting a chance to drain away and dry out.
Finding space to put the shrubs is going to be a problem. I'd have to loose something else to make room - so figure I may as well loose these.
I waded through and had a good look at the cotinus today - think it is past saving anyway!

Awww No. save the Cotinus.

I remember seeing the flooded bits in your garden before Angie...can't you get the neighbours on board to sort out the drainage now ? their garden must be bad.

It's spread further than what is usually flooded P! The Cotinus was planted a good 6ft away from where it normally floods. It's kind of up hill a bit too, if you know what I mean! I wouldn't waste my time asking the neighbours - they don't care enough! Of the 4 gardens which flood (mines being the one that gets the least) the other 2 are council houses so I would be as well banging my head on the brick wall :)) The area that usually floods never lasts longer that 3 days and is usually only in April. In a normal year - it wouldn't have been affected!
Since posting earlier - I have actually been outside and dug out a young lilac planted at the very back of the garden, with a view to digging out the Cotinus and putting her in there tomorrow. I won't have time to do it tonight before going to work - anyway - it's still pissing with rain so I would probably only make matter worse!! On the up side - there are another 2 cotinus in the garden looking good.

Gorgeous

Could you put them in pots in the meantime. You might need to fork out for flood defences for just your garden if this is going to be the norn in future but if all goes back to what was normal then you can replant the area. Maybe your insurance company would help. I would think all the flooding in Edinburgh is going to have to result in some sort of clean up of the rivers. You might benefit by that. Have you been in touch with the Environmental Health department or your local councillor. I hope you don't lose those plants.
