8 Jul, 2012

nice contrast of colours,Pimms...no sun here as yet,but warm and pleasant..:o)

8 Jul, 2012

It's chucking it down here...and I'm wearing a cardi - again - in fact I was forced to buy one while I was out yesterday!!!

Thanks Pim! We're just driving down to Aragon and Navarra for a few days, in search of the sun...but the forecast doesn't look brilliant there, either...
Ah well, it's a wee change :)

8 Jul, 2012

Backlit Cotinus? Crackin shot Pimp.
Don't forget your sunblock Karen! :-)

8 Jul, 2012

8 Jul, 2012

Gotta love the sunshine in our gardens :)

8 Jul, 2012

You get wonderful colour combinations in your photos which are very striking.

8 Jul, 2012

Stood in the cold rain for an hour this morning . . . but saw the Olympic torch (daft as a brush, me - another Brit idiom Lil)!

8 Jul, 2012

lol..

8 Jul, 2012

Thanks Sheila for clarifying. Helps me to understand when some have been drinking ;)
Must have been exciting watching the torch pass.

8 Jul, 2012

Hmmm . . . just mildly "exciting" Lil, but nice to come home to the warm and a glass of rose, and a snack, and then a cup of tea; and later a glass of red with supper, followed by coffee with a glass of kahlua. Now on the Cinzano and lemonade . . still sober you undershtand . .

8 Jul, 2012

Help ma boab, Sheila!!
You've fair mixed your drinks there! :D

8 Jul, 2012

Lol....the quiet ones you have to wonder about ;))

8 Jul, 2012

...you're right Lil...

...it's the tea that'll cause the problems... ;)))

8 Jul, 2012

Wow that colour is amazing how strange :o)

9 Jul, 2012

Oops sorry for interupting the serious talk lol ;o))

9 Jul, 2012

You should definitely have at least one Leigh.

A Cotinus .......... not one of Sheila's cocktails!

9 Jul, 2012

Just to help you on your learning curve, Lil, especially with regard to this blog:-

Sober as a judge
Pissed as a newt
Mad as a hatter
Daft as a brush (WHY????)
Thick as two short planks
Away with the fairies
Doolally
Bent as a nine bob note
Two sandwiches short of a picnic

Any one got some more to add here? It's a project to Anglicise Lil's vocabulary so she won't be all at sea when she finally makes it over there one day.

p.s. Beautiful photo, Pims. One of your best.

Thank you very much Gattina:

"You look like you've been sent for and couldn't come"

My gran used to say that ?

9 Jul, 2012

Never heard that one before. I've heard "Face like a slapped bum." though.

9 Jul, 2012

So thoughtful of you Gattina, thank you!
I've only ever heard 'Sober as a judge' and 'Mad as a hatter'.
Do you use 'Not the sharpest knife in the drawer'?

9 Jul, 2012

Is that what it is pimp, ive just been looking something like that i think. wouldnt mind some cocktails tho its been 4wks! lol :o))

9 Jul, 2012

We do.. and variant 'not the sharpest tool in the box'

9 Jul, 2012

Hmmm, will have to think on more.

9 Jul, 2012

Yes Leigh.. Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple'

there is a nice green version as well.

9 Jul, 2012

Bloomer and Yorkshire will know thousands of them Lil..it is practically how they communicate over there in Yorkshire.

9 Jul, 2012

As popular as a red headed step child??

9 Jul, 2012

Were ya born in a barn?/put ' wood int oyle! - close the door.
appy as a pig in muck -happy.
arse over tit- fell over
Guin black ova bills mothers-gunna rain
cant organise a p**s up in a brewery-useless

theyre a few yorkshire phrases incase your ever luck enough to visit this amazing part of the world lol :o)

9 Jul, 2012

ill slap ya like me ginger step-kid.
tho ive never said that! lol

9 Jul, 2012

Stop actin 't goo-at (goat)- stop messing about, me nan used to say, or youll getta scutch rand ear oyl.

9 Jul, 2012

Lol, thanks LL. Loving the accent as well.

9 Jul, 2012

Like " wood int oyle " Leigh. Told you Lil, they are mad as a bag of spanners in Yorkshire.

9 Jul, 2012

Face like a bag o' spanners! :o)
i speak the queens english mind!
lol do i bod, common as muck i is!

9 Jul, 2012

This is going to be some education ;)

9 Jul, 2012

I rather like "Mad as a box of frogs." and "Useless as a chocolate teapot." How about "Looks like she's been pulled through a hedge backwards." (i.e. scruffy) and "Rare as chicken's teeth"?

I hope you're writing all these down, Lil.

9 Jul, 2012

Of course I am Gattina, scribbling madly!

"She looks as though she was ridden hard and put away wet"??

9 Jul, 2012

Ooooh! Lovely picture being conjured up here! Haven't heard that one, Lil.

9 Jul, 2012

Lol thats rude! or is it about a horse? :o)

9 Jul, 2012

YAY!!!
Have a better look at my profile pic then :))

9 Jul, 2012

Definitely rude LL :)))

9 Jul, 2012

:o))

9 Jul, 2012

'Thes muck slat on t'winders'. Roughly translated means there is some muck on the windows, ie the windows are dirty!
'If ever tha does owt for nowt, do it for thysen'. If you're ever going to do anything for free, do it for your self.
I'm sure a few more will spring to mind Jx

9 Jul, 2012

Oh of course 'where tha's muck tha's brass' quite applicable to the Yorkshire Spa methinks. Jx

9 Jul, 2012

Just want to thank Lil for recognising that I am quiet (and dignified) - well, every day except Sunday . . . and therefore have no further phrases to add to the collection in spite of having been born in Yorkshire.

. . . and to reassure Karenfrance that they were very SMALL glasses, lol.
