Isn't there a Scottish phrase ' Simmer Dim ' ?? meaning sun down or I might have made it up.

'Simmer dim' is an expression from the North Isles, ( Orkney and Shetland) referring to the fact that, as far north as that, the sun barely sets in midsummer and there is daylight for almost 24 hrs, only 'dim' around midnight.

Yes, it's a nice expression. But the opposite time of the year, midwinter, there are only a very few hours of effective daylight. Now, that would drive me mad, P!
