Strelitzia nicolai (Giant Bird of Paradise) (Strelitzia nicolai (Giant Bird of Paradise))

This had a huge chop last year and has bloomed since I was last there. This is the bloom a little past its best. The bloom was a good three metres up - this is a seriously huge plant!
Taken today at Oxfords botanic gardens.

I would love one too, but as PA says it will require a lottery win!

Meanie:

That's a good close up for being so high up. Yes, Giant-bird-of-Paradise does get huge...it grows wild here and grows to almost 40ft/12m tall.

They look very nice with many trunks at various heights, especially in front of buildings. I posted some.
