The more it goes, Tiddley Pom, on snowing.....

About time it stopped, Gattina! It's stopped here, and the temp is due to go up to 2 degrees tomoz. :))

I have just been to the front door, and the snow has stopped, but I think it's going to be a few days until we can dig our way out - OH dropped the snow shovel and we can't find it! If we tried walking into it, it would be very nearly waist-high.
Meadow, we have friends who live at Ancona, a bit down the coast from Rimini, and they say the sea has been freezing - they have mini icebergs, unheard of in the Mediterranean.

I'm not tempting providence, here, Meadow, but two Italian words spring to mind. The first is "Magari" which, roughly translated means "If only", and the second (phrase, not word) is "Non vedo l'ora!" = "I can't see the hour." which I suppose is as close to "I can't wait" as you'll get.
It's frigging freezing outside, but the sun's out, the snow has stopped, and temperatures are set to start rising, imperceptibly, towards zero, which is forecast to happen in about a week and a half. In the meantime, I'm busy sewing new covers for the garden furniture cushions. Given that you see Italian ladies wearing fur coats in May, whatever the weather, maybe they are a lot more cautious than us, and we shouldn't rush to get the ice-cream scoop out just yet.

That looks a bit like what I found outside my front door on Sunday - it was even worse than last week and I'm really getting fed up of it now. Luckily the sun is shining and it seems to be melting a lot of it ..... and I hope not to see any more of the stuff for a LONG long time ... xx

I'm still feeling pretty upbeat about it, Terry - the temperature has soared in the past couple of hours, the sun's out and it looks magical out there. If I were having to go into work, like you, though, I can imagine I wouldn't be quite so happy.
OH is being the wonderful guy he is and shovelling snow for all he's worth. We found the car! Unfortunately, there's a cat - Flora, who has found her way on to the rose trellis, is surrounded by 60cm deep snow, can't escape and is crying, but when OH formed a rescue party, she scratched him!
Of course. it's entirely possible that, since we're only half way through February, we'll have more heavy snow, but for now, the forecast is pretty good, so fingers crossed!

Great to hear things are improving . . . and the snow shovel was found! Hopefully Flora will find a way to safety when she's hungry . .

Flora is ALWAYS hungry.

Hi Gattina, I've just written some comments about the poor frozen strays on TT's blog "Winter Optimism" so I won't repeat myself - poor little blighters ....

Glad you found the snow shovel - our street cleaner was using some ripe lingo yesterday morning when he found that some clever so-and-so had pinched his shovel off his little carretto during the night ....

Gattina and Terry , so pleased that you seem to be getting some snow relief , if only for a while !
We're set for some rain .

Just been raining here today Driad - nasty cold rain, yuk - time for a cuppa tea and the crossword!

Nothing much happening here , Sheila , so after scanning a gardening catalogue ( even more seeds! ) I popped over to the library for a book launch . Very suprised ; I bought a copy and might even read it . It is a Victorian detective novel done in the style of Dickens (his bi-centenary ) based on a portion of Bleak House . Don't yawn , she made it sound interesting . Here's hoping !

13 Feb, 2012

Didn't yawn at all, promise! Who is the author?

Btw, I'm in the middle of "Deaf Sentence" by David Lodge . . . reading it for my book group. It sounded so good, but basically explains what a bore it is to be deaf. So, an eye-opener (that's not meant to be funny)but don't bother!

Hi ,Sheila , the book is called Tom-all- Alones by Lynn Shepherd . Apparently that was the name of the slum in Bleak House . (The only recall of Bleak House I have was in serial form a couple of years ago , on the box ). Anyway she made it sound interesting , and she had done lots of research on Victorian London , so we'll see ...........
