We always put something out for him, I know its not encouraged by most of the neighbours, because of the smell he leaves behind him, but I like to know he's had something to eat............

Great shot Milky, but no friend of mine.......I am a farmers daughter, lost all our bantams thanks to one of his kind, our children never got over it!!

8 Feb, 2012

Im sorry Dotty, I know a lot of people dont like them for that reason. Thats exactly why I hate, no not hate....LOATHE Magpies and Crows...They take all the baby birds from the nests.....

9 Feb, 2012

Agree with you there milky about the Magpies, i was traumatised last year when they ate the bluetit fledglings in my garden, poor things didnt last 5 mins grrrrrr..
as for feeding the fox, i would probably do the same but i would worry more about it coming into the house, remember when one attacked twins in there cots, that sticks in my mind..or what about pets, cats, rabbits etc, would a fox attack them? Sorry Milky im not getting at you, im just curious, I know someone on another forum who leaves raw chicken out for a fox and her cubs (when she has a litter) he said they are very shy and he only gets pics through zooming in from a bedroom window..

9 Feb, 2012

YDD unfortunately they are not shy here, very aggressive, you have to run at them to chase them away.......only this week a mate of OHs had 16 geese killed for fun and the fox just took one away to eat, you can see why we do not encourage them, we have made the garden fox proof as much as we can, so I am sorry Milky but feeding them is out of the question here.

Great pic Milky :o)))

10 Feb, 2012

Thanks TT.........

Put some cheapo dog mix out tonight*. There are no smallholdings or farms near here. These are possibly descendants of the 'original' urban foxes as documented by the BBC way back when.

*It's gone :))) I'd like to think at least one of them can now knock off for the night and curl up under it's brush. They only live a max of 2 years in the wild so that's possibly 2 winters and one summer, imagine :(

11 Feb, 2012

Thats sad DD, I totaly understand why you dont encourage them, it must of been devastating for your OHs mate...

11 Feb, 2012

great pic. :-)

26 Feb, 2012

That's an incredible photo of Freddie the fox!

Thanks Andy.......I know a lot of people dont like Foxes, but I always smile when I see him and know he is still around...........

2 Mar, 2012

Despite all the negatives which I do understand I still feel for them having to survive in conditions like this, I hear them bark some nights & want to throw a bit of food usually an apple but it scares them away but then along comes the blackbird in the morning & he will be happy for a while, so long as next doors cats leave the birds alone, nature just like life can be very cruel.

Gosh well winter seems an age away looking at that snow now. No doubt we have emerged :)

I second the sympathy for foxe's precarious lives, which explains their need to find food wherever we provide it willingly or otherwise.

Thanks.............
