The birds are coming back!

Had to share this with you...what beautiful birds we have in the UK don't we?

So beautiful :o)

You know, TT, some people are amazed that I so wanted to get home after being in the tropics...but we sometimes forget the sheer variety and beauty of what we have on our own doorstep in the UK. There's no place like home. This little creature has just made up for all the nastiness that has been coming my way lately.

My siskins are not back yet. They usually appear around Feb 1, so not long to wait. I love the way they feed upside down on the feeders.
Great shot, KS!

Wonderful countryside and wildlife :o)

Oji, i've never seen it on the feeders. It was taking the spare seed from the new bits of lawn.

Aren't they lovely S.side. I sometimes see one in the hedges when I am out with the Dog, but I don't usually see them in my garden.

Thank you San! How are you lovely lady?

Is it a siskin? so pretty and bright. We have pine siskins who eat seed from pinecones..they have yellow on them but not as bright as this fellow.

Yes that's right Lori. About 70 Goldfinches turned up yesterday as well!! It was like Hitchcock here!! Not a bird in sight today....isn't it funny? It was a lot milder today so I think they went back in to the fields for lunch!

Our weather has been so strange, Karen. I think the birds are a little confused by it all...One thing that is bothering me...there are no sparrows! not a one! have seen snow buntings, bluejays, starlings, woodpeckers, and chickadees but no sparrows!

Strange Lori. Do you know that in recent years the numbers of sparrows in the UK have been dramatically reduced and nobody really knows why.

Turns out that this is actually a Yellowhammer! :))

Just checking when this appeared last year, as I saw one in the garden again yesterday! This must be the leanest month for the birds. Having said that, we had a nice spell of sunshine on Friday, and I heard an insect buzzing. Didn't see it, but definitely heard it! Simple things.....

Such pretty birds... a lovely pic :o)))

Same story here this year as well, Karen. Still no sparrows...and this year fewer snowbuntings...but still the bluejays, nuthatches and chickadees. Have finally attracted the wild turkeys in to feed...they like the cracked corn and sunflower seed.

Wild Turkey Dinner? ;)
