A little bit of gardening

A little bit of gardening

The nearby GC has tiny plants, well quite small and in very small pots, I wanted to make a mini garden ~ think I would call this work in progress.

thanks PP, it hasnt turned out quite how i imagined it!! i have kept the plants in their tiny pots otherwise i think they might get too big!!??

7 Jan, 2012

oh, nice. Are they still in their pots? if so, you can move 'em around and see what various layouts look like - and of course as the plants grow you can move 'em further aprt and in bigger bots.

*s* makes me want to extract digit with my mini conifers!

7 Jan, 2012

they are still in the pots fran. i wanted a little path thru it but i havent got that worked out yet.

7 Jan, 2012

It's fun, isn't it Sticki? I tried one once, but it's trickier than it looks!

7 Jan, 2012

you are right sheila!! but at least as fran says they are still movable. i just liked the idea!!

7 Jan, 2012

Very nice Sticki i used to have a big green bottle garden once, they are fun arn't they :-)

7 Jan, 2012

oh i love bottle gardens, but i was afraid i wouldnt be able to keep the plants.
perhaps its my childlike mind, i like miniature, it fascinates me

7 Jan, 2012

looks great!

7 Jan, 2012

very nice:)

7 Jan, 2012

lol you can have a whole landscape! paths, tiny stream or pond, maybe a rock "cliff" - it's endless!

when I got a "proper" garden, my thought was to have a miniature "map" - a mini garden mirroring the large one, as near as possible bush for bush, ;feature for feature - plating something in the carden would also mean plancint someithing in the "map" - and one could use the map to work out the planting arrangement in a full size garden - much easier to move them around, and to get an overview!

hmm, don't know if a miniature map of what is in itself basically a mini garden would work...

7 Jan, 2012

Go for it , Stickie , looks good and it will keep you out of mischief until you can get out in the garden proper . I'm really missing growing and planting at the moment --- roll on Spring .

7 Jan, 2012

thank you makao
keep me out of mischief driad?? its mild enough here to be in the garden!!
thats a very nice idea fran, for mine to be accurate i would have to put the model on a slope and create very large trees at the back.

7 Jan, 2012

lol errrr, maybe save that for a later project, once you've had some practice?

old saying:
small is beautul.
It is true

shee, the 3-5-3 haiku is even more addictive than the 5-7-5!

7 Jan, 2012

ok now i will have a think

tiny leaves
detailed greenery
imagine

7 Jan, 2012

It's a lovely idea - I did something like it in a tub with woodland plants

7 Jan, 2012

woodland plants would/wood be good!!

7 Jan, 2012

:))))))))))))))))))))))

7 Jan, 2012

Aw, cute!

7 Jan, 2012

perhaps i should do a mosaic path???

7 Jan, 2012

smiles, why not?? so long as it's more or less to scale. *s* cut up an old CD and use the mirrored side for a magic mirror mosaic path!

there's a website called Two Green Thumbs: they do truly, mind-bogglingly tiny gardens, with specialised plants and "garden accessories" a quarter of an inch high! some of their accessories are miniature mosaic tiles, which is why I mention them - not to mention special cement for it! Not advertising the opposition, they're strictly ultra-mini

7 Jan, 2012

thanks fran, i will have a look at that.

7 Jan, 2012

That looks so nice,Sticki.I quite like it as it is,with the driftwood and cobbles..:o).

7 Jan, 2012

I always prefer casual informal - if only the "natural look" didn't take so long to achieve!

7 Jan, 2012

got that piece of driftwood from budleigh salterton, the stones too.
yes i like natural too fran.

7 Jan, 2012

bjs
Bjs

How long have they been in your miniature garden, they look well established.

7 Jan, 2012

Very nice Sticki....garden in minature - great idea :)

7 Jan, 2012

a few months now i think bjs,

thanks scottish

7 Jan, 2012

Can these go outdoors when/if they get too big?

7 Jan, 2012

possibly not?? dont know much about them.

7 Jan, 2012

*s* if we coudln't see the pots or tray, there'd be no clue hat they weren't full-size - a nice "fools-the-eye"

7 Jan, 2012

The tallest is about 6 inches I think?

Will they be ok in their pots Brian?

7 Jan, 2012

Got my laptop connected to the tv sticky & this picture looks great on telly very nice.

7 Jan, 2012

Now that's a good idea kev, I haven't worked out how to do that yet!

7 Jan, 2012

Its just a lead from laptop to tv sticky, had to adjust screen res on laptop a little but its great the pictures on here are brilliant.

7 Jan, 2012

Which type of lead?

7 Jan, 2012

Lovely variety you have there Sticki and lovely different shades there too.

7 Jan, 2012

Stickis' zen garden

8 Jan, 2012

thats a nice idea, thanks stevie ~ think i need to tidy it up a bit to be a zen??

thanks sixpence

8 Jan, 2012

I do that too..looks great on the big tv! I dont know what the lead is called lol

8 Jan, 2012

Love your mini garden always fancied one myself

8 Jan, 2012

thanks clarice and pixi,

do you think i should try to get a bigger tray so all the plants can go in, two are in separate pots currently at the side.

8 Jan, 2012

I would looking forward to seeing it develope and see how big the plants grow.

8 Jan, 2012

thanks clarice, it needs to develop but im hoping the plants wont grow too tall.

8 Jan, 2012

size of tray really depends on how much room you have: two smaller trays might be more adaptable than one big one - you could have them side by side or end-on, or have one behind the other, raised a bit, to give a stepped effect.

I bought cat litter trays from my local pet shop ages ago: got two different sizes and a few of each, to stand my small plants in - not for a garden effect, just cos it savd on buying lots of different-sized-small plant saucers. I also bought fish-tank gravel to put at the bottom, so they wouldn't be standing in excess water but there'd be moisture there for them to draw on.

*s* pet shops can often help out a gardener

8 Jan, 2012

lovely sticki

8 Jan, 2012

thanks fran and sanbaz, i have just the window sill ~ normal width.

8 Jan, 2012

nods, that's the prob, available space. Most windowsills are barealy hand-wide, mine are even narrower, so it's precarious putting stuff on there - besides, when you cloe the curtains you get an air-gap of cold air aournd platns thre. *s* that's why the curtains of my old flat rearely closed - anyway, being on the 7th floor over a the non-balcony wall, hardly likely anyone was oging to be walking past to look in!

8 Jan, 2012

no curtains on this window!

8 Jan, 2012

This looks brilliant, you are clever. I love the natural look of it.

8 Jan, 2012

Well it's more of an idea really stroller, I think it needs a bit more work!

8 Jan, 2012

all gardens are a work in progress, but one on this scale even more so, because you can see it all at once

8 Jan, 2012

Lovely choice of plants Sticki, haven't seen 'angel wings' for years.
Holds mem'ries
of life evergreen
and wishes

I cheated with the memories, but it is how it's said isn't it?:-)) Never done a haiku before, wheeeeee:-)

14 Jan, 2012

oh, thanks BA ~ which one is angel wings? i dont know their names.

love your haiku, fun arent they?

14 Jan, 2012

Caladium sticki, the one with the lovely long whitish variegated heartshaped leaves. I'm no houseplant expert, (or any other kind of expert for that matter), hope I'm right or I'll feel stupid lol:-))

14 Jan, 2012

well you know more than me!!

14 Jan, 2012

Ha! I could tell you anything then:-) I've just been on Wikinut to try and tempt Flori back...lets see if it works:-)

14 Jan, 2012

well done you, she does like that site doesnt she but she is very good at those poems!

15 Jan, 2012

Have you looked in on Wikinut? Flori is Songbird b, perhaps a concerted effort is needed:-)

18 Jan, 2012

i have seen it ~ she is a very clever girl.!!
