my home

A cold day for photos, but just show my little space. You can just see the glow of the high pressure sodium lamp through the upstairs window...lol. Hoping for more warmth.

Lovely cabin! Is it oil heated, or is that I water tank I see?

It takes a long time for the ground to warm up where you're at, but I bet once it does, and you start having 24 hours of daylight, that you can sit and watch your plants grow a couple inches a day, I think you also have some of the best, richest soil around. Hope it warms up soon for you !

The house is oil heated. The rasberries love living under that tank, in the shade. Hmmmm. We are at our 24 hour light, but summer has come so slow, nothing has really taken to it. I do expect big changes once i get back. I have someone watering while I tool around in Utah. I have wild raspberry in everything, so I don't use my natural soil much, but the greenhouse soil is local and real rich. Filled the beds with that.

What a lovely home, bet its great in the summer. What about the snow in winter, how high up the steps does it come??

6 Jul, 2008

Snow nowadays is just about 1 1/2- 2 feet all the way through. Used to be 3-4. I let it stack up too, to protect the beds around the steps. I find a mulch and snow cover sometimes surprises me with what will survive. You'd think nothing would help with -50 F and permafrost underneath.

What a cool picture GT!

Looks a great place to live and bet it's great fun pottering around there. Do you have muchland of your own?

What wildlife do you get there?

This is a rental OB. I have a good acre patch but I just use the front and right part mostly. Cleared once long ago but going very wild again. We have the moose wander through mostly and rabbit. I have a lot of wild raspberries, so bears are known to be around. But I haven't seen any.

Not much chance of the moose or rabbit in our back garden but plenty of sparrows, various tits, starlings, finches, crows, magpies, doves, pidgeons, 3 squirrels and most recently a frog by the compost bin!

And this morning, much to my sheer delight, I spent 5 minutes or more watching a Great Spotted Woodpecker on my nut feeder. Awesome as Ali had seen him but not me.....until now. Got a new camera arriving tomorrow so hope to get some great close-ups of Woody and the other visitors.....along with the plants & garden, of course :0)-

Sounds like you have caught the bug! :-) ah, GOY

I get my share of bird, but fleeting as the cat must tell them to take off. Oddly ground nesters seem to pay her no mind. That woodpecker sounds great. I love getting to see them. Fascinating.
