Lovely picture

Thank you Sheila, nice to see the clay banks are gradually covered in plants, since we cleared the bulrushes and reeds out

What are the red plants down the right hand side Dawn, they look really striking?

Dogwoods Sheila. I have blocks of red stemmed and yellow stemmed ones along the bank? Leaves been falling off them this week which highlights the stems.

Aha - I think I've got one in my garden. Is it the same as cornus, which goes red in the winter?

Those Cornus just make that scene don't they...absolutely lovely Dawn, it looks really amazing.....and all year round too, which is unusual for ponds which are usually dull in winter time.

Dawn it looks great ,it's very difficult for me to see in my minds eye all that horrible clay that you cleared out and to see what you have turned it into today , it's stunning , I wouldn't have thought it possible in one year .. you have worked your socks off :o))

what a lovely aspect this is..love the colour blends and the day was obviously perfect for the picture...must be quite awesome to be able to spend time just being next to it and looking at it..admiring your vision and work..great picture

Thank you everyone.
Yes Sheila, Cornus alba (I think). The plan was that the red and yellow stems would reflect on the water during Winter.
Thanks Skip, pity I dont have time to dwell :-(
I know Amy, remember when I used to say I was having another day smashing clay. It wasnt so much the pond edges but the huge area around it that had been disturbed by digging the pond deeper and spreading the clay out, levelling the clay around the land around it. Oh dear, never again.

Cornus My Hubs favourite....does look stunning....

29 Oct, 2011

Cornus are so useful, I love the stems through winter and the leaves are pretty too in summer. Mine are at the stage at the moment where the leaves are bright yellow, which is a nice contrast against the red stems. There are some nice Cornus trees available too.

It depends on the size for us, I would love to get one for him, but its keeping it in check....

I've been looking into getting this one:

Cornus alternifolia Argentea

AndrewR did a blog a few days ago and he has one. Slowish growing, max height 10 feet by 8 feet spread - like the wedding tree cake (Cornus Controversa) but not as big. Got that one, lol. Looks lovely, found a cheap one too!

Wish there was a Dwarf variety....lol..
