Valeriana officinalis

Valeriana officinalis (Valeriana officinalis)

Common valerian (not to be confused with red valerian which is completely unrelated), grows to around five feet in sun or dappled shade. Stems may need support. Prone to blackfly just under the flowers (as shown in the picture!). Self seeds if not dead-headed

I was looking at mine yesterdan trying to decide if I should stake it or not. I think I will.

Unless it is in a very sheltered position, I would advise staking it before it falls over. As it is tap-rooted, you don't have to worry too much about damaging the roots
