Can anyone name this plant for me please, it is very hit and miss but this year it is back with a vengeance. I have no idea what it is remember planting it but that was a long time ago and cannot remember even what species it belongs to, it is a bulb of sorts, long straggly leaves and a flower head with these strange elongated flowers, tuber shape, with a cream colour inside the flower. I have never seen it anywhere else would appreciate help with identification please.

Lachenalia Bulbifera is my best guess....bet you're well impressed!! lol....found it in my Jacques Amand catalogue that arrived today!

but if it is that, it seems to be flowering far too late.....perhaps its not that at all.

Impressive very clever, will have a look mine came today. Cannot even remember where I got it from. Impulsive buy, now there's a surprise eh!

Could be Lachenalia Rosabeth, which flowers summer time, and is about 12" tall?

It is a strange plant, it didn't flower at all last year, then it has popped up again this year. think I got it from Parkers about six/seven years ago. It is the first year it has really shown much flower, seems to be all over but very hit and miss as to whether it flowers or not. Seem to think it was a fritillaria family member, but not sure about that.

Ah well I did wonder if it was Fritillaria pyrenaica or something like that....but I thought not, but it could be!

Not Lachenalia Bulbifera looked at that one defo not. Not Fritillaria pyrenaica either, Not Lachenalia Rosabeth, the tuber is quite thin and elongated, it doesn't open out stays very much as it is now.

Ah, well then, I'm stuck. Put it on as a question. Andrew will probably know, or Spritz.

I'll have a punt at Dicheleostemma (probably Ida Mai).
It's on my "to get" list.

Meanie have had a look at that on google, it is the closest one so far. But not convinced that is the right one, it is very similar, but is more cream at the end and Ida Mai is described as green with cream.

Have posted a question with two more pictures on the queries page, fingers crossed someone will id it for us. Off to bed now, thanks for your input. We will see what tomorrow brings, Goodnight everyone

Meanie had another look at the flower again today, think it is this one, on the newer flower buds they are quite green, so think you must be correct thank you for all your efforts in identifying it.

Thank you everyone, have had a look on Andrews page last May time and yes it does appear to be this plant thank you all so much for having a go at it. The only problem is I shall never ever be able to remember this name. lol.
