The Bottom garden 18.04.11

The bottom garden this morning before work. I gave in and put the sprinkler on last night after weeks of no real rain. Trying to weed or plant yesterday was impossible with the solid dry clay. Looking a bit greener today.

Thanks Guy, there's still lots of weeding to do on the slope but it was so dry I couldn't get a hand fork into the clay

Good on you, i was thinking of putting mine on tomorrow, everything is so dry, waterbutt is almost empty and the new one i had conected up the other day as no water at all in it.

That's a lovely comment Moti, thank you :o)))))

It's wonderful as usual. Your solanum is doing well, although it has left a gap in the hedge just like my honeysucke and my photinias have. It's the same feeling I get when I have my hair cut too short, but it lasts a lot longer!! :)

i love the privacy of your garden as well as everything else.

19 Apr, 2011

yes, me too!

i wish our hedges were taller but if they were i wouldnt see the sun, i like the garden to be just for me!

19 Apr, 2011

Sticki this view is looking north west so the trees don't stop any sunlight, the lower cut Solanum on the side fence is where the sun sets in mid summer (all carefully planned) Lol

Karen I know what you mean about the too short hair cut! The Solanums are coming back well now, I cut out loads of dead wood on Sunday to tidy them up.

My Solanum is doing well, it seems to have been unpurturbed by the winter. It was only planted last summer if you remember so it's only young yet, but it has lots of new growth on it....I'm pleased because it is in such a shady spot.

I don't think they mind too much, mine see no sun for a large part of the year. The front garden one is in flower now :o))

you've got it sorted ~ i wish i had planned more of mine properly ~ i think i will spend a lot of time moving stuff although the big trees behind the garden dont belong to us so cant do anything about those and they have by far the biggest impact.

There is a large old Ash in my neighbours garden when it is not trimmed for a couple of years it takes a lot of the afternoon sun so I know what you mean. The new neighbour seems keen on cutting it back so it wont be a problem this year.

these trees belong to the council!! we have had them cut back a bit ~ with their permission but its really a big holly that blocks a lot of the light

19 Apr, 2011

That's a shame J. Still, if you could hear the noise of my neighbours' toddler's blooming Disney Toy.....which I might add has enough volume on it for a RAVE ...which is playing constantly at the moment...right up against the back fence...you might be glad of a holly tree! Grrrrrr....

Get your hose out Karen!!

Do you know, I had it in my hand yesterday and a wicked temptation crossed my mind!! But I have decided that instead of bugging the child, I will bug the parents instead, so I put my music on loud to drown their noise! We just got ITunes, so theyve had a lovely mix of Mozart, various opera Divas and now Muse! Can't say I'm not eclectic!

19 Apr, 2011

Lol.....You should stand out there and sing to them

20 Apr, 2011

That would be cruel Annella, she is only a child after all, I don't want to traumatise her!!

Lovely borders, all fits together well! Especially like the bronze coloured tree next to the white flowers and all the different shades of green, lovely combination!

Karen, do you mean your new neighbours. Our's have a trampoline and the others over the other side have a bar b que every night Grrrrr. You know.. sometimes it's nice when it rains, it's certainly peaceful! lol!

20 Apr, 2011

No no, my new neighbours are lovely....our age, grown up children, no noise. No, it's all the children in the six houses behind my garden....and the howling dogs.

21 Apr, 2011

Thanks Helenium.
Poor you Karen, does Molly try to see the dogs off?

21 Apr, 2011

Karen, that must drive you round the twist!

21 Apr, 2011

Yes, she does Annie and I spend half my time trying to get HER not to bark, which is hard for a Jack Russell, but I just can't bear the noise of it! Poor dog! Helenium, some days it's a bit much to be honest. We'll be here until the children are through uny, but I think I'll start taking cuttings of my roses this year :((

21 Apr, 2011

Aww.. Karen, that doesn't sound good at all! That's a real shame! x

21 Apr, 2011

Yes, well I can take the cuttings and enjoy the garden for a while as they grow on. You never know, by then the noise could have stopped and you will all get the cuttings!! lol

21 Apr, 2011

I hope the noise stops for your peace, Karen! Maybe the kids will get fed up with those toys and get new ones very soon.. that don't make a noise!

21 Apr, 2011

That would be good!
